That's a NICE All Terrain Warriors truck!

Lifting roof eh?

Um...FYI: Site rules require a price be mentioned in a vehicle for sale ad. (Didn't see one, maybe I missed it while drooling over the pictures.)

Thats a great rig

Love those Fuso FG's

What is the single rear wheel set up?

Ive considered doing something of that nature with my Chevy 3500.

All the best with the sale!!

Hi DWH

Just to be clear.......All Terrain Warriors did not build the camper module on the rear......it was built by a caravan builder in Brisbane to the owners design and specifications. The lifting roof was replaced with a hard roof.

But it does look like ATW did a coil over mod on this and wasn't it on here not long ago? this is really loaded with stuff, interesting to see what they get for it.
John I am sure you posted about these guys, what is the deal with the roof, looks like it can go lower but I dont think it does??

Hallo serious series-whatcharterboat-dwh-westyss-mog

Sorry the price was supposed to be on the info sheet. E 125000Euro.
I have just contacted the previous owner and he tells me the following.
The impressive living part was build by an Australian Off road Caravan builder 40 kilometers north of Brisbane Australia. (Not far from All Terrain warriors)

The aftermarket suspension-single wheels-Torsion Free Suspension frame-Long range Dual diesel tanks, Dual Water tanks- Bull bar front-Rear bumper bar and dual spare wheel carrier- endless air to inflate tyres and use air-tools etc were all build/installed by All Terrain Warriors.

The lifting roof started life as pop top (mechanical) but the heavy 4.3 meter long and 2.2 meter wide roof was not opening easy. ( heavy)

The owners then approached All Terrain Warriors and the suggestion was made to use linak actuators on all 4 corners. This was installed by All Terrain Warriors. System worked perfect and made life very easy.

Unfortunately while they travelled lots off road in Africa, dust, tree branches took its toll and the electric system stopped working on many occasions. No dealers in Africa and the nearest in Europe; they had no choice but to persevere. While encountering minus 25 degrees in Romania they encountered another issue and that was frozen vinyl, lots of condensation and with 80 km an hour winds, the wind it had to cope with was quite a lot.

Hence in Europe they rebuild the roof into a solid roof. No more condensation, perfect while they travelled the Arctic. While they re-did the roof they also increased storage space under the seating area.

Bye from the tulips

I've been following the travels of Robert and Clary for a few years now - Last thing in their blog was they were shipping their truck back to Europe to continue their travel. It is certainly a well travelled truck - they have done a lot of the route we intend to travel in our truck we we eventually get it finished.

They had a lot of problems with the truck early on in their trip in Africa, and had to return to South Africa to get it fixed. They don't think much of the Australia dealership/Fuso Australia - no warranty once you leave Australia.

According to their website, they are planning a North/South America stage - I wonder what has happened if they are now selling up.

Hi Iain and Alan

No the owners have not stopped travelling but continue there trip in a larger truck ( ready next month) covering Central Asia to Tibet-Nepal-India and Bangladesh. I have contacted the owners to answer some of the questions asked. I know he is not very active on this forum but he is a member under the name fearless. I believe the back in Europe in a few weeks. ( live in Cairns northern australia

We got court in a spam problem on the site so here is the response to ruben’s request again.

Like Westyss, I am also interested to see what the car will sell for as the cost new is well over $300000.00 AUD (Euro 250.000.00) It will show if it keeps it value or not? As they say the proof is in the pudding. I think for the really serious person this is a very good deal. And well below replacement value as it has every option you can think off.

Ruben summed up the story pretty well perfect. Hence I have repeated part of it below.

No we did not stop travelling in fact in 6 weeks we are starting Stage 5 of our around the world adventure this time it will be the Stan Countries-Northern Afghanistan-Tibet-Nepal – India and Bangladesh.

Yes as you can see on our website we have had a lot of issues with our truck when we started our around the world adventure in the first year. Most was mainly due to lack of service/ warranty by Fuso Australia. In South Africa between a local service guy in George and Truck service Europe in Europe we solved all issues with truck and suspension. What did not help either is that we are not technical people. And many decisions we made during the modifications were based on what we heard from others/so called experts?
We now know only a handful of people do understand what overland travel is all about as most only read the web blogs and never owned a truck themselves or driven one for 6 or 12 months on a overland journey. We were very lucky to meet an experienced overlander in Africa who told us of a Truck service operator in Europe with loads of expertise in the Paris to Dakar race circuit and who travels overland. Instead of coming up with possibilities they came up with the solutions to all the problems we had. After all issues where addressed and solved we travelled 2011 and 2012 trouble free.

One thing we learned is that overlanding is something very different than a off road weekend trip or a 4 week camping trip.

Yes the single wheels conversion came from All Terrain Warriors so did the aftermarket suspension-Torsion Free Suspension frame-Long range Dual diesel tanks, Dual Water tanks- Bull bar front-Rear bumper bar and dual spare wheel carrier- endless air to inflate tyres and use air-tools etc were all build/installed by All Terrain Warriors. You will find stories and photos of this on our website including newspaper clippings. From memory also on this forum you find a fair bit of information while ATW was building the truck. The living part was build by a off road caravan manufacturer main reason was flexibility, and the use of timber inside instead of fibreglass. The living part was our design and build based on our Off Road caravan build by the same manufacturer. Due to the exclusivity of the builders we could build what we wanted not something of the plan. In fact we are copying this part on our new truck.

Ruben explained the issue with the lifting roof in his response perfect. I have to admit that the company (Phoenix) who build our living part tried to talk me out of the lifting roof. It was me who pushed for it. Issues started already before we left Australia; hence we approached all terrain warriors to install an electric lifting roof. Unfortunately this malfunctioned while in Africa after just 4 months and with no dealers or service staff in Africa this could not be repaired until we arrived back in Europe. But once we arrived in the real cold weather (In Australia real cold would be -5 degrees at night this is 23 degrees Fahrenheit) we got hit in eastern Europe by minus 30 degrees or -22 Fahrenheit. The condensation was a real problem and so was ice on the canvas making it very difficult to close the roof. We were very lucky to have a power full webasto heating system but In fact you had to be careful not to break the canvas when bringing the roof down. This was 3 layered arctic vinyl. We decided in Europe to replace the pop top with a hard top. And while crossing far Northern Russia with in -40 degrees Celsius in Fahrenheit minus 40 we knew we made the right decision.

Disadvantage is that it will no longer fit in a container; however the cost of shipping is very limited once you start traveling around the world. Plus once in Europe you can cover Africa-Europe-Middle East-Sub Continent-South East Asia and Russia. This would take 3 to 6 years on its own. Combine this with Alaska down to South America via Central America (at least 3 years) we are talking very little money for shipping over a 9 or 10 year time frame. Due to lots of competition shipping between Europe and the USA is very competitive.

Advantage with the hard top we did increase our storage space by more than double, no more condensation and lots more comfort inside and much more comfortable in cooler climates.

Hope I have answered all questions, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information email outbush@westnet.com.au

Did we stop travelling NO we still plan at least another 6-7 years of travel?

2013 Europe to Bangladesh leaving in May.
2014 Bangladesh via Iran to Oman-Saudi Arabia back to Africa
2014-2015 Africa for a third trip covering Central Africa (Congo-Gabon-Cameroon-Angola-Mozambique-Zambia-Zimbabwe)
2016 South America at least 1 year including circumnavigating the Amazon River
2017 Central America at least 1 year
2018 USA at least 1 year
2019 Canada and Alaska 1 year

WHY did we sell the light truck and choose a heavy truck ?

Living in the truck nearly full time we liked a little more space, we also wanted to carry a motorbike or scooter to do local sightseeing and shopping.
Our new truck is a Mercedes Atego 4x4 256HP and 970Nm build by the Special Trucks division at Mercedes Benz Military Vehicles in Worth Germany. Differential Locks and interaxle differential locks which can be operated while driving. Grade ability up to 60%. (Interesting to try this) Will report back when we have tested this? Having spent so much money on upgrading the suspension and other aftermarket equipment such as LSD etc. This truck comes complete with all components ex Mercedes Benz factory. Including 365/85R20 continental army spec tyres Atego is a family of high mobility 4x4 truck systems designed to transport troops and cargo in the most severe terrain and climate conditions.
I have been very slack on your forum. However today I have put stage 1 and 2 of our around the world travel on your forum.

Our new website will be available shortly with all information of the new truck. Off course the old truck will also be highlighted as it did bring us all around Africa-Northern Russia-Siberia-Mongolia-China-and South East Asia. Total 155000km in 3 years.

Our website is partly operating but the blogs and photos are all accessible. www.doubledutchworldsafari.com
