Mobil 1 5w-30 Synthetic

Anyone running this oil? Found 6 quarts for $30, seems like a good price. Currently running 5w-30 AMSoil for like $7 a quart, any thoughts on these two comparatively? Just thought I'd ask :) .

LOL, asking about which oil might as well ask about your religion and politics, too! Mobil 1 is good, so is Amsoil. Don't think you can go wrong. What's more important is that you pick one and stick with it, mixing brands isn't ideal since sometimes additives and detergents can react. The stuff I use is easy to find in the weights I want and so by that logic I would say Mobil 1 as it's very common. Oh, and I own ExxonMobil stock, so the more you buy, the better.

I run that brand of synthetic along with the Mobile-1 M102 filter. I've been running it since ~25k, changing it every 4k miles. No problems really, just a tad pricey.

I get the 6 quart box at Sams club for around $30. I go by the GM oil life monitor which usually runs around 6000 miles between charges.

two years ago it was $25.88 for 6, its now $29.88. Still not bad and at every 6k for 60k miles thats under $300 in oil and 10 oil filters at $3.97 so under $400 for maintenance in 60k is decent.

Run it in the winter on My Suburban. I run the 10w30 summer but it is hard to find some times. About to switch my Toy over to Mobile 1 as well. 5-6k change interval.

The 0W30 uses the most advanced viscosity modifiers of any oil available to consumers. Rapid viscosity change means better protection. Great additive pack too. Increased fuel economy is another advantage.

I have had Mobile1 in my truck since it's third oil change. I love it and I was so pumped when I found it at Costco for $30 a case. I am curious about the 0W30 though. I once put in 10W30 and my truck ran like junk. It really prferes the 5W30. I wonder what the benifit actually is and how it would make my truck idle? How would it handle a colder climate. I really don't know beans about viscocity, I just went off what my oil cap says.

I got my 05 V6 with only 7K miles on the clock. Before my drive from Alaska to Colorado, I changed to Mobil 1 5-30 and used the Mobile-1 M102 filter. After 4,200 miles - of which 3,800 were used to pull a trailer - I did an oil change and filter replacement. Gosh, did I waste my money. The first thing I did was to take off the filter, which had some dark honey colored oil in it. Then I dumped the engine - which looked like new oil. I was amazed to say the least. After a long trip of A LOT of steep hill climbs and pulling a trailer, the oil was in GREAT shape. I have always chaged Mobile 1 at the 4500 mile mark, but think I will monitor it for a while to see if I can get about 6K. Maybe a little more...

I change at 6,000

For the Arctic trip, we ran the same oil for 9,200 miles. Oil test results are pending. I will try to post them up.

Just curious. When you guys upgrade to synthetic do you have to upgrade the filter as well? Also when you FIRST upgraded did you have to flush or simply add the oil and the old stuff would be removed?
