Started working on replacing the fuel pump today. Got it lifted up and started looking at it...

I knew the bolts/nuts would be rough to get out, but ended up breaking 2 and having to cut 2 off. Now I have to weld on new bolts...JOY! Also found out that my tank straps were rusted and essentially gone.

This is the "used" fuel pump I bought on Amazon for $41. Smells new, looks new, must be new!

Solenoid to isolate the second battery is also ready for when I get a chance. I have everything I need besides the fuses now!

As you can see, straps are toast.

By the time I finally got to this point, it was too late for me to drive to the only store in the city I think that had new straps in stock, so I had to quit for the night. Picking them up tomorrow around 1 and should be on my way to a new fuel pump finally...

I got to do my fuel pump, too. I bought the sane Bosch. Paid $100 on close out from Rock Auto. I'll go ahead and get new straps before I start into this. I am trying to convince a friend of mine to help me. He knows way more about this stuff than I do.

Make sure you get new filters for the pump. They're going to be around $25-30 and will replace the ones on the pump itself. Money that should be spent. Straps are $24 at AutoZone, cheaper than elsewhere here in KY. Start spraying the bolts down now! I broke 3 of 6, and they're capture studs in the frame! Now I have to figure out what to do in order to safely be able to tow...

Got the pump in today. I can tell a difference for sure.

When I pulled the tank out, I took care of some of the rust...nothing too crazy, but every little bit helps I guess...

Wait....isn't this supposed to be attached to something?

Second filter (inside the sending unit housing)

New pump and both new filters put on! pretty easy...way easier than I thought it was going to be!

Noticed some rust in the tank...and the tank is plastic. So...where was the rust coming from??? Turns out the filler neck is rusted and the whole back half is missing. I'm going to have to grab one from the junkyard I guess this weekend.

Man's best friend went for a ride with me too

Spent some time yesterday fitting the rainfly and figuring out what to do there. Ended up one of the tent rainflys fit perfect. I have to work out the tie downs, but I sprayed the tent with water (way more pressure than a heavy rain) and no water got in. Excited about that for sure.

Also wanted to test the air mattress in the tent, fits great!

Solar rope light from Harbor freight? Works great. Might even get another one to add more light.

Also painted the skid plate. It was pretty rusty.

When I aired up the mattress yesterday, I ran out of cord, and never really got to air the mattress all the way up. So I fixed that issue today...

Charged at 2.1 Amps for the USB ports, and gives me a cig lighter for all those other accessories...

Mattress aired all the way up...

Dog seems to like it

With about 6" of space from the edge on the other side, this is how much room is left at the "foot" of the bed.

This will be enough room for my wife and I to have bags up there with our clothes/gear and have a small cooler or something up there. Almost wrapped up with the major things for the tent. Can't wait to try it out.

The pump doesn't come with filters? I'm glad you said something before I did it. I started the project yesterday by picking up a used tank for $20. I got it cleaned up and ready to go. Since this is my daily driver, I decided to go ahead and be ready to put a new tank in the moment I get the old tank down. And everything I've read about doing it is to make sure you clean the tank before re-installing it. Which includes letting it drip-dry for an hour or so. So I thought I'd just get a jump start on the process with a replacement tank.

According to my 95 FSM, the pump should include one filter. There is also an in-line fuel filter, which I have purchased to go ahead and install while I have everything down. So I think I should be covered. Also considering doing injector swap while I have the fuel system down.

Hmmm. Maybe they changed something between 95 and 98. I have a larger "sock" filter on the bottom of the pump, and a smaller filter inside the pump housing. I don't have an inline filter to my knowledge. I'm going to double check now though...
