This weekend I removed the original 4 battery 140Ah with 10Amp charger set up that came with my King Kamper.

I installed 2 Deka 105AH AGM batteries with an upgraded 20 Amp Xantrex charger for a total of 210AH. The Xantrex came with a battery temp sensor and remote monitor panel. It was a pain to wire in the new lines but well worth the effort.

Aluminum angle stock riveted to the floor with a rubber backed carpet base for the batteries to sit on.

Strapped the batteries down with nylon web straps

Remote monitor panel and new charger mounted on wheel well, under side shelf.

I got to test my new system this weekend. It was an amazing difference. I ran an 84 Qt fridge, lights and a heater for three days without needing a charge. We did drive between camps the first day so that did help recharge a bit.

The funny thing was, once everyone left camp I wanted to try out my charging system. When I hooked up the generator, the battery charger just flickered dim lights and never charged the batteries. I was convinced the charger had failed. When I got home I attached house 110V and got the same results.

Then that little light bulb went off and I thought the circuit would be fused between the charger and battery. Sure enough, my old system had a 10 Amp charger and 15 amp fuse. When I upgraded to the 20 Amp charger I never changed the fuse. It worked fine when the batteries were near full and only drew a few amps but when drawn down, the new 20 amp charger fried the fuse. duh.

The output circuit uses the same 8 gauge wire and runs a 30 amp fuse so I replaced the fuse between the charger and batteries with a 30 amp fuse and it all works great now.

It came with a Webasco Diesel heater. The fan uses 12 volts but all the heat comes from the diesel fired burner and heat exchanger> I think Scott is using a similar one from a different manufacturer. It just sips the fuel and would run for over 100 hours on 5 gals of diesel. It can keep my tent super warm even when it's in the low 20s outside. :suning:
