Mounting a Go Pro Hero HD camera in vehicle.

For those who use a Go Pro Hero HD video camera in your rig, what mount did you use? Trying to figure out a stable, out of the way method to mount it for off road use (mild beginner trail runs to hard core rock crawling trips).:smiley_drive:

Also what's your experience with it been like?

TIA.

I have the HD helmet one, but I think there is a mount too for my dash, but have not tried it there.

Other than that, the camera is great, I pre-paid a year back before they hit our shores.
The videos are true HD and clear, and the pics it takes are very decent.

I've used the dashboard mount with the suction cup and the clamps on the roll bar. With both of these mounts I got a lot of shake even using the image stabilization in iMovie. You might want to try working in a helmet mount view and the chest mount as well for a little variety.

I don't have a GoPro, yet, but I use this mount from FilmTools for my cameras in and out of the truck. It's solid once mounted.

That is a nice mount but like most professional camera supports, it's also heavy on the dinero LOL. Quality doesn't come cheap as they say.

I'll give the GoPro suction cup mount a shot but if I find it lacking, I'll look at other alternatives.

Thanks all.

Haven't had any issues with the suction cup mount and have had it on the driver side door, window, and roof at speeds over 40mph on bumpy roads.

Only I have had is not having new batteries or not tightening the connections down tight enough.

The suction sup mount is much stronger than I would have expected! A buddy of mine just stuck his to the taillight on his desert race truck and went for a little spin around the block and it just stayed

...........however I am sure that when his truck is getting it on in Wendover BORE race this weekend he will need something stronger.:sombrero:

I have one of these Hama mounts.

It fastens to your windscreen.
Third one down on this page:

It's worked well supporting a circa 1996 (so fairly heavy) Sony Hi8 camcorder.

Well I have seen these on the go pro mounts used in speeds 200mph+ on the exterior.

For this race I run a cheap point and shoot w/video on a large ram mount on my harness bar. it is rock solid at speeds upto 140mph.

here is in car wth a point and shoot on a ram mount 1" Ball setup

and its a little fun to watch... this was before the race test driving the road at speeds less than 70mph during the race I hit this corner at ~105mph

The suction cup, flat sticky mounts and (if you have tube bumpers or roof rack) the rollbar or handlebar mounts work real well. Just be sure to use the orange thing-a-ma-jig (as see in LostDelta's pic above to cut out any noisy vibrations caused my the clip mounts.

Also be sure to have the surfaces clean when you use the suction cup or it will come loose like at 4:11 in the first video (original wide angle GoPro) below. :snorkel:
