I just aquired a "Asus Eee 1000" Netbook to use with Earthmate Gps Lt-20, while traveling. I would like to mount it in my Chevy Colorado truck. Has anyone done this,or does anyone have any ideas ? thanks alot

Just make sure it doesn't block an airbag for your passenger, if you have one. Or see if there is a switch to disable it, if there is.

Most newer cars, the airbag won't activate/arm if the passenger seat is empty.

An airbag deployment on the passenger side would send that computer into a direction that could possibly cause some injury.

I really like my www.jeniko.com mount....
and the price beats the crap out of the ram mount...
also it is much thinner which is nice since I can have it in front of the passenger or over the center.......

I have run mine hard for over a year and the alum plate is easy to mod to hold my radio mic's and other tidbits

How would a mount like that work in a vehicle like a Wrangler that requires the seat to fold forward to access the rear seat? Will this work or do I need to find something that mounts to the console?

Those netbooks are really tiny and don't weigh much. Can't you just velcro mount it to your dash if you have a nice flat area?

Only if you want a 2lb netbook smacking you in the head when your in an accident.

Sure, if you have one little strip of it. I was thinking of using a sheet of industrial strength hook and loop to give you a large enough shear area to safely hold it in place.

I wonder what would hurt more a 2lb netbook or a 1-2lb gps on a suction mount?

I use the heavy duty Gambler Johnson computer stands on my rigs for my laptops. I have one in my Work Truck, personal pickup, Motorhome and my 4 wheel drive Expedition rig. But, the big laptop I use is a Panasonic Notebook. It’s a very heavy laptop. THe smaller laptop is a Toshiba and it doesn't handle vibration very well in the stands. But, I like the Gambler Johnson because it is rugged and very adjustable. We can use it from the drivers seat or the front passengers seat. My wife can plot in a new course on it from her seat on the far side of the Motorhome and swing the computer over to the center console for me to see and follow while driving. She loves to find out of the way stops for us while we're traveling. Although with the recent surge in fuel prices we haven't done a lot of that lately.

I've been looking at the Asus E1000 Net books and was wondering if it would work with the DeLorme Software and wireless GPS. Apparently it does for you which is grest news for me. I have a few questions. How does the Asus work for you? Have you had any problems with loading the DeLorme software as far as size of the data?

You see, I want one to carry on my Adventure Motorcycle to use as a photo and ride report storage system. And the netbooks are perfect for the pounding that it will take on my bike. But if it would handle the Delorme Software as well for planning, or modifying my routes, it would be a great tool. The Garmin I use on the bike is a little sparse when I want to look at alternative routes. Plus I can't download my ride reports.

I hear the soon to be released ASUS Net books will be even more powerful with Windows.

I'm anxiously waiting to see what they do with them.

Any insights as to how yours is working for you would be appreciated.

+1 for RAM mounts

The nice thing about the RAM is that it uses existing bolts and doesn't require drilling into your floorboards like some of the other options do. In my Subie, it can easily be positioned out of the way of the passenger airbag if occupied. Otherwise, the airbag is automatically disengaged.
