Mounting options for RTT on flat top rack, any pictures?

Blackwater

Im getting old! :(
So heres a quick rundown of my question,

How are RTT's (generally) mounted to flat roof racks? Canvas (ARB style), and Fiberglass (Auto home etc..)

Does anyone have pictures?

I have a flat Rhino Rack Pioneer rack and am trying to decide how to mount a RTT without ever actually seeing one up close... Not any experience with RTT's on my end unfortunately.

I wish Rhino Rack had RTT mounts like Frontrunner but unfortunately they do not. The other option could be to mount Yakima bars to the top of my rack but really no good options for that either.. Would there be a way if I got additional channel bolts (as seen and used on my Foxwing below) to mount to those? Is there room under the tent to mount this way?

Any help or advice from someone who has mounted a few of these?

Heres a few pictures of what im working with..

While I don't own a RTT (yet) I have seen how the fiberglass type are mounted when I visited Colorado Camper Van for that very purpose. The bottom of the RTT is flat fiberglass. You drill holes and mount it wherever you want to. In your case it looks like you can just drill straight through your roof rack and mount the tent directly. I would use some kind of large fender washer or plate under the roof rack as well as at the other end of the bolt on the inside of the tent. I would also recommend at least six mounting bolts. Mine will probably have eight U-bolts as I will be building a rack out of tubing. Use new nylon lock nuts, maybe even drill a hole for a cotter pin in some or all of the mounting bolts (you do NOT want that tent coming off on the road!!). Also keep in mind that while there is a mattress inside the RTT, the base of the tent is also the floor, so you want to keep the lowest possible profile inside the tent or else you'll be sleeping on protruding bolts.

One idea for getting around that is to weld a pair of studs to a small steel plate and mount it so the studs are sticking down. Another option would be to use elevator (flat) or carriage (rounded-head) bolts and cut a square hole in the 'glass. I've seen large (1/2" dia or so) Phillips-head screws as well, those might be ideal. Check at McMaster for that kind of hardware.
