That's good to know about Pelfreybuilt. I got that feeling from them, I fired off a few emails and they were very responsive. I don't know if I'll get/need the high clearance bumper, I may go with the normal bumper. I Which tires and wheels are you selling? Not the steelies, right? I'm pretty set on getting the steelies. I'm going to look at my spare, I'm pretty sure that it's a 16" steelie. I just want to make sure that I can get a good looking center cap for it.

Yes, selling the Steelies & the BFG KO2's. Here is a link to my sale add over on tacomawrold.com https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/f-s-fj-steel-wheel-bfg-ko2s-tire.389448/

What tires and size are you getting next?

Chmura. I really like the way 35" tires look on a mid travel set up Tacoma. My truck is more of an Overland Style Rig than a hard core Rock Crawler/Trail Rig I also don't want to do all the cutting & bashing needed to fit this size. With that side, I may go back to a 16" wheel & tire in the typical size - 285/75 R16". I have a buddy who has a set of TRD TX Bead-lock wheels he's selling me. I frist need to get rid of the FJ Steel Wheels & Tires.

Have you explored the idea of an 285/75/17 tire? This is a 33.6 to 34" inch tire depending which manufacture you choose. That's the biggest tire I would ever go on my rig.

Thinking about the Nitto Trail Grappler M/T next after my KM2's.

Yes, I have. I ran this size on my FZJ-80 Land Cruiser. It's a bit taller (1") than the 285/75 R16. But, if I stick with a 17" Wheels, I'll just keep my 34" KO2's its the same size... By the way the Trail Grappler M/T is an awesome tire. A few of my Heep buddies have them, they say its the best all around tire. Good luck, with the new tires, send cant wait to see them on.

I believe the 34" KO2's are a bit more skinner than the 285/75/17 34" tire. The 285 width suits our trucks really really well I would not want anything bigger/smaller than the width of these.

Are the TRD TX wheels 16x7? If so I believe there are some minimum wheel width requirements from certain tires. Plus the offset of Toyota wheels do not help us running bigger tires either.

The width of the 285 range tires causes a lot more rubbing issues than the skinny tires of the same height. A 285 75 17 is going to rub in places that a 34 x 10.5 x 17 wont. For this reason many people have found that the 255 85 16 or 255 80 17 is a more practical option vs the 285 75 16 or 285 70 17 for those that want a taller tire without having to do all the work do clear a wider tire of the same height.

True but my 285/70/17 KM2 M/T do not rub at all in the front. The key to this is pushing the fender liner forward and cutting a very small piece of inner bumper off (if you dont have a aftermarket bumper). Second thing to do is to get an alignment and have them pull your caster as much forward as possible so you do not rub on your body/cab mount. 3rd is you need to get different offset wheels or run spacers. If not you will rub on your UCA's and sway bar (I did) at full clock.

The OP has an aftermarket front and rear bumper. He should not worry running 285's.

I had 255's on my truck for 2 years. It was a good size but the 285 size is much better IMO.

The only negatives the 285 have are MPG suffers more than 255's. This does not bother me since my rig is not my daily. Only use it for camping/exploring.

Yeah the tall skinny tire vs wide topic has been beat to death. My point was that with 255's you can stick them on and not have to trim, fold, or adjust anything and use whatever wheels you want with no rubbing. Not saying the 285 isn't a bad choice, it just requires more involvement than the 255's for the same ground clearance.

B-Day 12/04/2015 - Goodies for the Rig..!!

So my Son (aka Wife) gave me a Prolink by Factor 55 for my birthday. I installed it last weekend. My Viking Off Road Winch line had the Hook spliced in, so I had to cut the Hook. Not a big deal used a Dermal with a good cut off disc, cut like butter. Any who, here are some pictures..!!!

I can't thank my friend and his shop (www.autobruder.com) enough, he gave me a full refund on the Hilux unit and I paid the difference on the new Tacoma unit. I should be able to install it this weekend fingers crossed.
