Wow, it's been a while since I posted in this thread. Lots has changed in my life, but not with the truck. I went back to school and completely changed careers, became a dad, and moved out of the city to the mountains. The Tacoma soldiers on.
The Taco has basically worked well for me in almost-stock form and I have just turned over 90k miles. Other than the sliders and tires, it's pretty much stock. The factory shocks were starting get worn at around 50k miles, so I installed some Bilstein 5100s. I left the perch set at stock height; I originally tried 0.85", but even with the TSB springs, it had too much of a stinkbug bro-stance for me. I ran BFG AT KO 235/85R16 tires from about 40 or 45k miles until yesterday, when I went back to 265s. This time I decided to give the Toyo Open Country AT2 a try. Since the truck was new, I've ran BFG MT KM DT, Cooper Discoverer ST (pre-Maxx era), the AT KO, and now the Toyos. I'm interested to see how these work out for me.
Also, I realized I never posted a good shot of the Slee Sliders. After almost 7 years the step plates completely rusted out, so I'm planning to reach out to Slee to see if I can buy some replacements. My 3-year-old daughter doesn't like climbing out of the back seat with out the filler plates on the sliders. For some reason it makes her a bit nervous.
I've always had a love/hate relationship with the rear suspension on this truck. I love that it's stock, but I hate that it's clapped out and can't support any weight. I'm patiently waiting for the leaf spring recall to move forward before figuring out what else to do. I'll likely add a set air bags to the new springs once Toyota replaces them and call it good.
