My 1979 Wagoneer. Long story with pics!!

I've really never been a fan of prerunner style bumpers on classic american iron. But maybe that's just me. The Cliffhanger would be my choice because it has the most period-correct look. It looks the most like the bumpers that Warn and Ramsey used to offer back in the day. The winch is mounted lower for better center of gravity too. On the other hand, the Crawler gets the winch out of the mud and off the rocks and would be the choice for more serious 'wheeling. They all have their benefits, but that's my two pennies worth.

Crawler ******. I like the crawler because it appears to have a better approach angle.

I don't like open/tube/pre-runner bumpers either.

I wanted to say Cliffhanger right off the bat, to keep the classic lines of the rig. (it's a sweet, sweet rig by the way.)

Spent some time looking at the other pictures on the BJ's website... And I've decided I like the Crawler better, without the hoop. Like this:

Since it's a plate bumper, I'd bet you could get one without light cutouts. (for "period correctness") And since it comes bare steel, you can finish it any way you like.

Also, the website states:
These were designed to hug the front fascia and get rid of the gap that our Dozer and Cliffhanger bumpers have.

Cliffhanger gap:

Bumpers that look "tucked in" and tight with the body always look better than "universal" bumpers that leave gaps. Of course, the site doesn't have as many pics of the Crawler. It could still have a gnarly gap. Just my $.02

Keep up the good work.

I like the pre runner:elkgrin: Confused??? I love your jeep. DON'T sell it again!
Don't worry, its not going anywhere! haha.

Love the Jeep ... for what you've got going; I'm with marshal, keep it clean and understated.

I think I agree with all of you guys. The more time I spend looking at the crawler, the more I want it. The "base" bumper comes without the fog light cutouts, winch bar, or winch mount. That is probably what I will go with. I hadn't ever seen that pic of the cliffhanger from the side. That gap would bug the crap out of me!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know about that. haha.

hey glad to see you've joined up over here! Its nice to see a familiar face (wag)
Hey man! I read through your build thread over here. Good to see you too. I love seeing pics of your camper in action!

Crawler is a good bet and while its design would be to hard to replicate... the Waggys are tough to build good bumpers for. Just not a lot of metal sticking out the front to tie into.
Chrome....YAK! no! ;)
You could get a crawler and modify it to what you like looks wise. I'm doing it with my XJ and a JCR bumper. Work in progress so don't mind the unfinished look or rust. The snow and salt here have been making building this here a nightmare! ;)

Bumper....Check! :)

Thank you sir! Bumper is about 90% done as of today! Still need to make new wires for the winch and mount the fairlead and lights... but here is it. :)
