My 1979 Wagoneer. Long story with pics!!

Great looking Wagoneer - 1979 is one of the best years for these Jeeps.

A heads up - these cars tend to pull the rear spring mounts of the front springs from the frame when they are lifted like yours. I'd reweld the mounts to the frame and add a strap or plates to reinforce them. Check for cracks now. Just FYI.

I also purchased a set of Rubicon TJ thick gear 4.11's. Using these gears allowed me to retain my stock carriers. I ordered up a SPARTAN locker for the rear axle as well as a full rebuild kit for front and rear. I had a good friend help me install all of this in a weekend.

While I had it up on jack stands I cleaned up and repainted the undercarriage and axles.

The new gears basically made the Jeep feel like it was rolling on stock sized tires. The gears combined with the part time kit in the t-case help me get 16 MPG on the freeway at 70 mph. Its true, I checked it twice on a 11 hour round trip.

I am the one you bought the gears from. I'm glad they are working out great for you! I love your Wagoneer and have found myself looking for one on occasion. I just ordered a JK to go with my LJ so I might be waiting a bit longer for a Wagoneer.

Yah I am aware of the frame cracking issue. I have really been thinking about reinforcing the frame like you say. I actually want to ditch the 6" lift springs and do a spring over with stock springs. If I do that I will most likely re-build all of the spring mounts.

Hey man! Great to hear from you. I have often wondered how your search for a Wagoneer was coming. Glad to hear that you added another one to the stable. I really love your LJ and hope to own one myself eventually.

Just kinda stumbled across this other bumper option and thought you'd want to see it maybe?

Though I think without the weird looking brush guard option.?. :)

Thats not a bad looking bumper at all. With just the base options, it would save me about 2 hundred bucks1!

Clean Waggy!

Most everything up here in the north east is rotting away or way over priced.

Thank you sir. I am trying my hardest to keep the rust demons away as much as I can. I think these things came from the factory with rust however..........:Wow1:

My dad worked as a jeep mechanic back when these were rolling in to the dealers and he told me they would come off the trailer rusting! They would spray used oil under them to keep them in tact until they sold!

That doesn't surprise me at all! haha. I got lucky on this one because someone had the forethought to have it undercoated when new. The rust was minimal compared to others that I have seen.

I'm still looking into bumper options. I was all geared up to buy one, but then found a good deal on a Remington 30-06. I have wanted one for a long time. I figured it was a little more important at this time to buy it and also stock up on ammo for the other guns we own. Who knows what will come of all of this mess but I felt the need to put my money there for right now. The bumper is still in the plans, just not this month.

Great build, I have the twin

Howdy, I have been working on mine now for a while. I picked it up from California with little rust, but a lot of dry rot. I went with the bjs front bumper, if you order from them don't be in any hurry at all, it took 3 mo or more to get it . the frame bracket are junk, so I built a new set and beefed them up a little. Here is my list of photos. if you would like to look.
