My first truck happens to be a 89 4runner!

found the drain. So me a few buds were working on the truck for a second time and this time the draw was intermittant. (meaning wasn't always drawing, only on a random note that we couldnt find.) the only thing we found was that the fuse for the "haz horn" or commonly known as the horn fuse under the hood. so i really didnt think of it would stop pulling amps as soon as i messed around with the whole fuse box, but the same thing would happen when i would pull the horn fuse. so i pulled the CD player. didnt fix. so i said why not pull the fuse. did it and it fixed it! but now my cd player wont power on. havent checked but the best guess would be the CD player was wired into the horn circuit.
next plans are to fix the minor, i think, rust under the removable top on the back, and in the a/b pillars when you open the doors. and then building a roof rack that doesn't rest on the fiber glass top.

Sounds like you're close to getting it worked out.
Once when I installed a car stereo in the '85, I found a wire that was acting as a ground, so I connected the radio ground to it. Then, whenever I flicked on the parking lights, the fuse would blow. Yep, I used the parking light hot wire as a ground.

Having trouble uploading pics from my phone. But I moved and starting to get settled in the north west. Almost sold the runner for an FJC but decided i could spend my money in a smarter way.
So last night I picked up some 14' Tacoma wheels since their 16s and was able to throw the new bfg at ko2 on them. Decided to not go all the way to 33s and stuck with the 265/75/16.
In the next month or so will be all of the under carriage breathers and and maybe a few other small things but next highly notable addition will be the old man emu lift.

Nice looking 4runner! I like your new tires and wheels they looks great! I wish mine had nice grey interior! For your back window try checking the ground wire for the inside switch. Mine quit working altogether, I made a better ground conection now it works with the key, I think my switch in the console is bad.

Roger Brown has a lot of workthroughs for the rear window (and other stuff) on his site.
Hmm...just found a match on there for the license plate lights not working. He says there's a connector inside the gate that as likely pulled loose.

I had actually already looked at the page but thanks for the help.
After finally not being able to spot the problem with the tailgate down I crawled in the back with the window up. Immediately spotted the problem.
As I thought since my whole tailgate wasn't working out was a issue in common with both, I was correct. The whole connector was ripped apart. Stripped each wire and made a individual connection for each wire for that is all radio shack had. So now license plate lights work and outside switch works except for rolling the window down. Up works!!!!! But no down. And ran out of daylight. So I'll check tomorrow to make sure connections are good. And slowly started tearing out the rest interior to clean and check for rust. Plan to replace carpet soon.

Today i took out the entire interior, that sat on the floor. Used Some industrial degreaser to clean. Then i covered the floor with a dynamat like material from home depot that is used too seal gutters and mobile home roofs. it is much quieter, and that was with no interior except driver seat with rear window rolled down. but i still haven't installed my new vinyl floor from jc Whitney and the rest of the interior that'll be tomorrow. Ill post up pics when its all done so hopefully tomorrow night ill be able too throw them on here. So the out come should be pretty good. now just need too find some aluminum sheets to make the side panels.

Nice truck. I think it looks great with the new wheels and tires. Would not lift it if it were mine.
Already has a small block lift from previous owner. So with Old man EMU it should sit at the same height.
New flooring.
Carpet was getting worn out for my tastes so I ordered a "custom fitted" vinyl flooring from JC Whitney.
This is some good quality stuff. But the amount of custom fitment was way over stated. The bed area was just about spot on. but the passenger area on the truck required extensive trimming. After a grand total of approximately 10hours(I went above and beyond though.) My new floor was installed.
After ripping out the old carpet, I bought some industrial degreaser at Home Depot to clean and to help remove the insulation.

I let the truck dry out and then started laying out my new insulation I selected. Bought also at Home Depot for $16 a roll which is 6inx25ft. Ended up using about 3 rolls and maybe 3 feet out of a 4th.
