My Gen 2.5 Journey, a build thread.

The super select front axles use a stub shaft between the diff carrier and the intermediate shaft, the AWD front axles don't have the stub shaft so the intermediate stabs straight into the diff carrier.

That makes sense, I’ve never had one apart. Maybe I’m getting bad part # information. Thanks for the wisdom.

So just Incase anyone is wondering. A 4.90 gear set on a 30in tire means 3100 rpm at 65 mph haha.

I have 265/70r17 tires (between 31 and 32) with 4.90s and travel nationwide at 75-80mph where legal to do so; the truck doesn't mind sitting at those RPM's all day long. I do run synthetic motor oil in the recommended viscosity with 5k mile intervals & take care that the engine is running its best all the time.

Yes sir maintenance is key always. The higher RPM is probably easier on the drivetrain as a whole. When I move up to the 33’s it will definitely level out a bit.

So a few more things happened. Still waiting on a bunch of parts, but the truck is coming along.

I found a fender, still need some more massaging to the valance panel on the front. The new to me fender must have been repainted at some point because the color is off.

I also started cleaning up the interior a bit. It was incredibly filthy, I’m still not completely happy with it but it’s livable.

Decided the dash needed some contrast, So I gave it some more black here in there. I also picked up a set of WeatherTech mats.

I removed more fake wood today. I think I’m happy for the moment.

Ok, so it’s been a big week. The front crash damage is almost sorted, everything is installed just needs some final tweaks.

I installed my BFG KM2’s in 33x12.50-15. The fitment is perfect on the stock wheel, lock to lock with no contact. We will see when it starts flexing, but clearance looks good.

I finally found all the AWD parts for the front end. I also ordered front and rear air lockers from TRE.

So it’s coming together!
