I started disassembly and inspection on my POS AWD front. It sat in the yard, in water for quite a long time it would appear. Really looks worse then it is, especially consisting it’s getting a full rebuild.

A locker, all new bearing, races and seals. I can’t wait to get this thing on the trail!

It’s been hard to find any time lately. I did get everything dissembled, and all of the bits being reused are soaking in a BG solvent soup. Should be clean as a whistle in the morning.

I’m not to worried about painting the case, it will just be covered in gunk soon anyways.

Will you have to do any finicky adjusting or shims once assembled? i figure the front doesn't matter as much as rear since its only under load in 4wd yeah?

Everything will be checked. Pinion depth, pinion preload, backlash and carrier bearing preload. Never skimp on anything in a differential.

When replacing just the spider gears with the locker the pinion will likely stay in spec. Everything still must be checked, not a fun failure.

Honestly, ring and pinion set up is made out to be witchcraft lol. Anybody with a little confidence, some basic mechanical ability and a 5th grade math level can accomplish it successfully.

The main issue is having the proper tools. If you only ever do one truck, It’s about the same cost having somebody set it up for you.

Some updates. The front diff is going in tomorrow, finding time to work on my own stuff has been very difficult lately.

I also installed a cheep radio, I need to figure out a new antenna location when armor and the rack start going in.
