My Gig Question

Looking for feedback from current owners.

Is this option worth it?

Dealer says that the 08 and 09 versions are different i.e. 08 is disc based and 09 is hardware based? Lower price for 09?

Would a guy be better off to just put in his own system?

TIA!

No, it truly and completely sucks... Every single feature is less than acceptable.

The sound is pretty good with the subwoofer, but I tore all of that out.

I have the recent update, and it helped just a bit, but is only in the Jeep because I could not find one without it.

Hello Dave,
This is one of the things my Jeep did not come with. I think you would do better looking for something aftermarket. Plus I believe you moded your stereo in the Tacoma. I wish the stock stereo had a Ipod port on the back of the unit instead of the front. Less wires hanging out!!! Maybe they have changed this since my 07 Jeep. Hope to see you on the trail soon!

I could not agree more with Scott - every aspect of the MYGIG unit is a kludgy piece of "bad design". You cannot store iPod files in the hard drive, the nav unit is a complete piece of crap (it won't even display your speed as a cross-check on the speedometer) and its menus and functionality are truly lousy (as a reference, in the last 15 years I have used almost every brand of GPS made traveling on land, sea and air.)

I only have it because all the available Jeeps had them installed; I will seriously consider getting a new head unit in the future.

Well since we just went to the dark side (also sold our Tacoma) I'd agree with avoiding it. Ours came with it but it's not something I would have gotten if the jeep weren't what we wanted from a color, options standpoint otherwise. I've had no problems with mine but your money is better spent elsewhere.

I had a loaner with it in there prior to ordering my Jeep. It stunk. The only system that I think stinks worse than MY GIG is the iDrive system in my mothers BMW.

Save your money.

It's complete and utter junk.

Do yourself a favor, avoid the Infinity sound package if at all possible, install your own stereo and add a Garmin or Baja540c. :26_7_2:

Though, personally, from someone who has been selling new Jeeps for a while, I wouldn't recommend ANYTHING made by them since 2006 (and that's only because the Wrangler still had the 4.0 then), to anyone who plans on using their vehicle off-road or in difficult terrain.

I could go into detail, but I don't want to offend anyone.

I have been looking at JK's as well and would be interested to hear your opinions also.

x2

I'm sure we are all adult enough to take away what is important from our perspectives. It's just a vehicle after all, not a family member.

I have a somewhat negative view of the JK myself. Not due to capability but other things. I'd like to hear your perspectives to see if we are on the same page or whatever.

This all said it'd still be in the top three of my short list for a new 4x4.

if you're going to bait the thread you might as well spill your beans. I think everybody around here is thick skinned enough to hear your thoughts. It's not often we hear from folks at dealerships - your opinion and observations would be valued, even if there is some level of disagreement.
