Ace.....well, that could possibly work. My issue with Mexico is the availability of ULSD now that I have a new truck. The Mexican government says that ULSD will be available throughout all of Mexico by December, 2018. Assuming that happens, I hope to see the entire country this time. I've visited the Yucatan area and Baja in the past. But as you well know, there's plenty more to see.....

We continued east on Route 22 following the meanders of the Santiam River.....



The views were amazing so I stopped often.....





We parked at the Detroit Dam.....



And hiked across the dam along the forest service road that hugged the shoreline. I nearly stepped on this cute little guy.....



Now I've been complaining off and on about the wet weather.....and people say "we sure need it, it's been a dry summer around these parts". Well, I guess these pictures sure would indicate that to be true.....





It sure made for some interesting photos.....





We were a muddy mess by the time we made it back to the camper.....



Looking forward to sleeping in the forests with all my animal friends.....

Thank you, I sure like my truck and have loved the Camper so far. The signatures do not show up on mobile, but here are some of my threads. The camper is a bit of a project, I have 250amp/hour battery. I would like to do solar, thanks for sharing that, I will look into it!

I was a little sad to see you get rid of the Chevy, but understood. The new set up looks great!

The Torklift factory is in Kent Washington, they have an amazing warranty!

Jerry, was traveling home to Indiana. Getting close up with a ring neck pheasant was awesome. Was in Winnetka, IL for a 54 year grade school get together and 50th HS Reunion. My camper batteries (AGM) were in year 5 and puked. I drove to Denver and had Four Wheel Camper install new batteries. We then headed for Utah (Arches, Canyonlands, Glen Canyon (Lake Powell), Escalante NM, Bears Ears NM, and Capitol Reef NP. I noticed issues in Glen Canyon, and after 2 nights in Capitol Reef headed back to Denver to Rocky Mountain Four Wheel Camper. The solar controller was bad. We we're planning on going from Utah to Telluride for the Aspen's and fly fishing. Tropical Storm Rose was going to dump rain on Telluride for 6 days so we decided to head home to Indiana. It only rained a couple of times in Telluride and otherwise was partly sunny. Very bummed we didn't go. We ran into 50-60 mph wind gusts around Fort Collins and headed through Nebraska. 6" of snow in the Mesa area East of Colorado NM. Glad to get home but really bummed about not going yo Telluride.

You say 6” of snow on the mesa. Do you mean up on Grand Mesa? I live 20’ from there in Cedaredge. Planning on going up there Monday to ride my fatbike in the snow. If too deep I’ll have my snowshoes as backup.

Too bad about Telluride. I was up in the Silverton area a few weeks ago at peak color.

PNWY.....I really miss my Chevy truck and wish that I'd never traded it in. Someone convinced me to go with the Ford and initially I liked it, but not so much anymore. I think that the Chevy trucks are built much better and are better suited to my lifestyle. This truck overheats going up long mountain grades. The front driver's seat is already ripped.....I was shocked to see how thin the leather (?) actually is. The Fords looks good but.....

You're headed to Chile and Argentina ? I've been there a few times on climbing trips.....Aconcaqua (22,841') and Tupungato (21,555').....both on the border of Argentina and Chile.....and I love it there !

Ace.....those are some beautiful fall colors.....

There's really nowhere better to camp than the national forests (as far as the U.S. goes).....millions of acres of wide open lands, free camping, miles and miles of logging roads and backcountry trails for hiking, lakes and rivers.....

So I'm quite pleased to be hanging out in the Willamette National Forest. We camped along the Santiam River.....



In the evening, and again in the morning, we walked.....



It was a good road in spite of the ongoing logging operation.....



Beyond the logging operation the forest was reclaiming the old paved road.....



I've been in the mood for some peakbagging so I hit up summitpost.org and found a few nearby peaks to hike up. We took the Jeep to the trailhead for Coffin Mountain (5,770').....



It wasn't such a long hike, but the views along the trail were magnificent.....





The higher we hiked the better it was.....



Detroit Lake can be seen in the distance.....



We reached this false summit by taking a wrong turn. I looked to the north and saw the real summit.....of course we climbed higher.....

There was an unmanned fire tower on the summit.....



And a helicopter pad.....I don't know.....I just love this picture.....



We still had time for a second peak.....the trailheads were so close together. This trail offered so many different looks.....it seemed as though there were multiple environments on the mountain. Elevation and how the landscape faced the sun changed the mountain face.....



Some of the trail was heavily wooded and the Spanish Moss made for an interesting look.....



Much of this trail was unforested.....and again you can see the nearby summit of Coffin Mountain.....







Nice views up high.....



There was a stone cairn on the summit of Bachelor Mountain (5,953').....and a fantastic view of Mount Washington (7,795').....

I really do love my Chev, she is the 6.0 Gas, so not a mileage machine but has treated me well and then some. Thats a bummer to hear about the overheating, somethings really arent made like they once were. I am currently working as a Risk manager for a large multinational company. We buy a lot of fleet trucks and trade them in at 60k, some years its all Chevy Others all Ford. Depends on who gives the better discount for the year, I still like the Chevy's better. But i dont know if the new ones are better then the fords or not, id sure like to think so though! And some of the features i prefer from one brand or another. I have been looking at the medium duty chassis as of late, just curious.


I also liked the Picture on the helipad! I think its the grin on his face, he is living the dream, just something about animals. And the pure love they have for their people. Yes, this will be my first time in Argentina, and a month is probably not long enough. But best i could do, and I cant complain as its all vacation time. The last year I will be able to do that at this company though. Traveling by motorcycle, but will do my best to respectfully see all i can whilst there. However my list seems to grow every day. Id love to do some large climbs, but may have to do another time. I imagine those climbs were epic! That is awesome. I would like to do the Pan Am, eventually. And well, I am not what you would call an experienced rider, i will be by the end of the trip though. haha

And im glad you having such a good time in the PNW, its an amazing place!

PNWY.....here's some old climbing pictures from South America. The first group is Aconcaqua (22,841') taken on a trip in 2002.....it was a month long climbing trip.....very little sightseeing.....



This picture was taken at base camp. That's me on the left of the picture with the baseball cap.....



Guys I climbed with. I'm on the far right.....



This shot was taken from the tent on one of the camps up higher (19,213').....



This is Cuerno (17,716').....it's often done on the same trip.....



And then base camp at Tupungato (21,555') in 2004. This trip was about one month as well.....

I did a 3 month trip in 2008 exploring & climbing in Chile, Bolivia and Peru. This picture is Cerro Jorquencal (16,386') in Chile.....I summited this mountain with XP member Vic Hanson in 2008.....



And this is Putukuski (8,508') in Peru.....a totally different kind of climb. It was a day climb up a steep, wet mountain. It was still a pretty cool climb and it is directly across from Machu Picchu.....most tourist won't see Machu Picchu this way.....

It was a good picture. Smiling dog, clouds at multiple heights, and mountains at several different ranges. Good to see the old girl make another summit with you.

Sitting here this early morning on top of a mountain in Oregon as a huge storm dumps tons of rain, with frequent strong wind gusts.....I feel like I'm in a sailboat in an ocean storm.....unable to sleep.....

Thanks for the detour. No wonder you like to hike so much. Climbing big mountains has never appealed to me but I do enjoy reading about other’s adventures at altitude.

Other than Mt Evans, where you can drive to 14k, my only long climb (4 hours) was Mt Wheeler in Nevada at 13.4k. But I also did a few peaks in the Adirondacks that were all scrambles.
