As always Jerry your pictures and word touch my heart.
As a few have mentioned about the book I have to agree with them!
Also add that I have been reading your book for a while now, in this thread! I have shared what I have read with my wife my kids and some choice friends.
This is a gift you have given us and I again thank you, sincerely thank you

Yukon looks like she approves of the current site! I view your posts from my phone often. Oddly, recently I get some pics that won't load. Just now, on the most recent post, everything after the first pic of the cows was "broken" on my phone. I'm glad I had the desk top logged in, what I was missing on the phone were great on the larger screen!
Was Tanner stalking something in the first pic under "Sometimes it's best not to be heard....."

Great pictures as always. Yukon looks plenty happy with the life you're giving her. Would she be as happy in a cabin? Would you?

When you see that broken photo symbol if you tap on it it will usually open ok. I too wondered about the not to be heard line.

Good to see you're enjoying yourselves and do what yo can to make it as good as possible for her.

Love the pics.

mekanix.....what awesome feedback ! Thank you. I'd like to say that comments like yours, and others that have posted here as well, inspire me to continue my travels but that would be a lie. The comments make me feel really good and they do make me want to write more and more. Now this got me to thinking about the whole travel thing and the inspiration that is required to keep on moving down the road. It could be said that I sold my house so I have no choice ! But the truth is, people like me, like you, and others here.....we just love to explore.....

Tgil.....nah.....he was just responding to a "come here" command.....

Riversdad.....those are questions that I don't know the answer to.....yet.....

Ace....."not to be heard" means I'm lazy.....here's some cool pics.....nothing more.....

Arjan.....after a couple of rough days I called the veterinarian and made an appointment for February 24th. Shortly after that call she made a very unexpected turn around and then she had three phenomenal days and nights. Apparently it's not a straight line from here to there.....

After our 6 day at the hot springs we were back on Hackel Road and driving north. We were out of water and can always use additional food so we were headed for the closet Walmart which was in Safford, Arizona and of course we made a few stops along the way.....

20200211_093915_copy_778x1600.jpg

Probably not too difficult to tell how much I liked this abandoned homestead along the road.....

20200211_093826_copy_1600x778.jpg

20200211_094245_copy_778x1600.jpg

There was the windmill.....the old wooden fences.....and of course the old wire fencing.....

20200211_094157_copy_1600x778.jpg

When you travel with no schedule.....well, it doesn't take much to stop you in your tracks.....

20200211_094440_copy_778x1600.jpg

We would eventually make it to that Walmart later in the day. Now water is probably my weakest link in my setup since I just don't care for the water systems in RVs so what you see in the next picture is a very typical day for me.....

20200211_111800_copy_778x1600.jpg

From here we backtracked a bit, made a left hand turn off the Wild West Highway and drove northeast to the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area. This is the place that I have described as paradise in my recent posts. We are gone now but we are so very thankful to have spent 8 days here exploring the wonders of the world.....

It never is a "straight line"......
Most things in Life aren't

Duncan was with me on Sunday for the day, running, navigating (he finally understood how to operate the Branz) and basically having a blast with me on the trails and on the Wednesday it was over...

She knows you know what is best.

And this is not easy.

Arjan.....yesterday I increased her pain medication to the maximize strength that the veterinarian would allow. We were in a forest, yesterday, when I let her out of the truck and she immediately caught the scent of deer. The chase was on.....I saw something that only I could see.....I saw that puppy that joined me on the trip north nearly 12 years ago.....and then I saw that adolescent dog that could give a deer a serious chase.....and then I saw my Yukon, running in the most convoluted form of running I'd ever seen. The spirit lives on.....

20200219_182048_copy_1600x778.jpg

It's almost time.....

Screenshot_20200210-171639_Gallery_copy_1600x778.jpg

There was a ravine along the road.....and I'm not sure why I chose this ravine over any other. It was directly across from the dirt road that led down to the nearly nonexistent boat ramp along the banks of the Gila River.....

20200212_150037_copy_2469x1200.jpg

So for no particular reason this ravine would become a place that I visited often.....typically morning, and then night.....every day.....

20200212_151631_copy_2469x1200.jpg

The further into the ravine I went, the narrower the passage became and the walls became more and more vertical, and higher and higher.....

20200212_150954_copy_2469x1200.jpg

I came here over and over for several reasons.....one of course was that it was a brief escape.....the other.....I'm always looking for wildlife.....

20200212_152402_copy_1200x2469.jpg

I never saw any wildlife here but their signs of recent visits were everywhere.....

20200213_091907_copy_2469x1200.jpg

20200213_114305_copy_1200x2469.jpg

There were plenty of songbirds here and I'll tell you that they made the whole experience of hiking here magical. One bird especially.....that bird would tweet maybe 10 times and then end it with a few short chirps or maybe even whistles. Listening to a group of them singing, their music bouncing off the vertical stone walls was so amazing. I have no idea what that bird looks like.....

20200217_100106_copy_1200x2469.jpg

20200217_095729_copy_1200x2469.jpg

In several locations I found the remains of animals.....

20200213_091339_copy_1200x2469.jpg

I never gave much thought to the idea that hawks had predators. I always assumed that they were at the top of their food chain.....maybe not.....

20200213_084220_copy_1200x2469.jpg

There were several large caves along the way.....and when I say large I mean maybe 20' deep.....plenty deep enough for a mountain lion to rest in and await their next meal.....

20200213_114114_copy_1600x778.jpg

I was always cautious when I approached the caves.....if Tanner was with me he was on leash until we had surveyed the cave in its entirety.....

20200213_114123_copy_1600x778.jpg

Once I was comfortable that they were empty, then Tanner was free to roam and explore once again.....

20200213_114238_copy_1600x778.jpg

This particular cave was about 20' above the floor of the ravine. We (Tanner and I) had to scale a wall to see what we could see.....

20200212_151201_copy_1600x778.jpg

Tanner, of course, puts my climbing skills to shame.....

20200212_151417_copy_1600x778.jpg

The rock here was varied.....a little of this and little of that.....

20200213_090324_copy_778x1600.jpg

It was all beautiful and quite captivating.....just to imagine the millions of years that it took to build this.....

20200213_090337_copy_1600x778.jpg

Initially our hikes were maybe one mile into the ravine which had actually, at some point, turned into a canyon.....

20200216_131717_copy_1600x778.jpg

Now the walls were much steeper and the floor of the canyon limits were well defined.....

20200216_132221_copy_1600x778.jpg

We would stop and have a rest at this spot that had a massive rock covering the canyon floor. The rock was filled with depressions which were filled with rain water.....here Tanner would drink and cool off in those small pools of water.....

20200213_084928_copy_778x1600.jpg

After a few days of stopping and resting at this point, and then returning to camp, I couldn't help but wonder what was further up the canyon.....

20200216_131319_copy_1200x2469.jpg

20200216_131406_copy_1200x2469.jpg

My curiosity paid off well as we hiked further up the canyon and the canyon split into two distinct smaller canyons.....and each canyon had its own distinct look. My favorite was the slot canyon to the right.....

20200217_154413_copy_1200x2469.jpg

20200217_154146_copy_1200x2469.jpg

Although much smaller than something you might see at Zion National Park, remember there were no lines, no people, no buses.....nothing but total silence.....

20200215_090814_copy_1200x2469.jpg

20200215_090815_copy_1200x2469.jpg

At the end of this slot canyon was a step up.....maybe 8' to 10' high.....and then a large pool of water.....one more majical place we stumbled onto.....

20200215_090610_copy_1200x2469.jpg

20200215_090516_copy_1200x2469.jpg

The second canyon that I mentioned might not have been quite as spectacular as the first.....it was still quite interesting and very, very unique.....

20200216_125536_copy_1200x2469.jpg

It's stuff like this that keeps me moving all day long.....

Have you considered CBD for Yukon. I have talked to yes people that indicated it had worked for their dogs better than pain medicine. Their dogs were using it for arthritis and a bad shoulder so may not be as effective for Yukon but probably worth a try.

ITTOG.....she's been on it since January 5th when the veterinarian said that he suspected she had cancer. Every night I get up at midnight to give her a 5 mg dog treat with CBD. Its been a huge help in my opinion.....

Another special place that we all liked to hang out here was at Bonita Creek.....

20200214_103530_copy_1600x778.jpg

20200214_102740_copy_778x1600.jpg

We could drive the Jeep right to the edge of the creek.....

20200212_121044_copy_1600x778.jpg

20200212_125346_copy_1600x778.jpg

And then the road continued up the creek and would then criss cross the creek multiple times.....we would drive here.....and we would hike here.....

20200214_104105_copy_778x1600.jpg

20200212_121631_copy_778x1600.jpg

It was a wonderful place to stretch the legs.....

20200214_103327_copy_778x1600.jpg

20200214_103325_copy_778x1600.jpg

Like the canyon, this place was special for a multitude of reasons but none moreso than Yukons ability to access the water and play.....
