My Journey

Arjan.....no problem.....

Targhee National Forest is such a peaceful spot to pass the days away.....

Now the early mornings were really cold and we'd go out at sunrise in hopes of seeing the forest animals foraging along the creek and river banks.....one morning a flock of pelicans landed just below the dam.....it was so beautiful with the sun rising and an early morning fog forming on the rivers surface.....

Walks along the shoreline of the resevoir were special as well.....

20200930_073603_copy_1600x2844.jpg

Not much going on here really.....a few fishermen here and there.....

20200928_185857_copy_1600x900.jpg

I'd guess we stayed here for 3 or 4 nights.....now I was beginning to think about what laid ahead.....I knew we were going south.....but I had no idea where.....

And then we would see our last sunset laid across the lakes calm waters.....it was time to move on.....

20200930_073343_copy_1600x900.jpg

We drove south on Highway 20 and made our first stop along the shores of Henrys Fork.....

20200930_101002_copy_1600x900.jpg

Further south we departed Highway 20 and drove along the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway.....

20200930_103036_copy_1200x675.jpg

We stopped, although briefly, to walk along a few of the well traveled trails here.....

Absolutely incredible waterfalls they were.....

After an afternoon of waterfalls.....we continued pushing south.....we needed to find a spot to spend the night.....

Welcome back. You have made me jealous with pictures of the Crazies. I will just have to dream about next September. Visited both Mesa Falls a year ago. Pretty awesome.

I thought of you often as we dodged the fires in Colorado. Every once in a while. I would check when we had reception. Glad to have you back, definitely has put a smile on my face. Be safe. JD

Wow, I loved the waterfalls. They were beautiful. Thanks for posting.

You mentioning the cold mornings made me wonder if you use heat overnight? What is the fuel source for your heater?

I guess no one spotted my dog in the climbing photo I posted earlier. She is way up at the top left of center. Really, she is hopeing down at me worrying about my climb.

I saw her and forgot to comment. She is hoping you would hurry up.

halseyt.....thank you.....I do appreciate you saying that.....and for liking my posts and following along.....

JD.....I heard from friends up north that the Crazies (and most of Montana) got dumped on pretty good from the first major winter (fall ?) storm that passed through recently.....combined with record October cold ! I'm happy to be a bit further south right now and don't envy those still up there. Thanks.....

Ace.....I too saw Kendra but obviously my post did not make that clear. And I agree with ITTOG 100 %.....that's exactly what is going on there.....as I too experience the same.....

ITTOG.....I figured you'd like the waterfalls.....you were actually fairly close to them on your recent Teton climbing / hiking trip (by the way.....congratulations on your summit of Middle Teton.....been there & done that one too).....

Northern Lites have an excellent propane heater and a thermostat to go along with it. Plus Northern Lites are rated as a four season truck camper so they do fairly well in the cold. Honestly.....this truck camper is much like living in a tiny house.....this is not really roughing it by any means.....

So now I opened my ioverlander ap and searched around for a place to spend the night.....and this is what I came up with.....

There is a huge asphalt parking lot that overlooks the Teton River which lies maybe one thousand feet below. The parking lot and viewing area here were completely overgrown and definitely were in need of some love.....

It's not often that we overnight somewhere that I feel uncomfortable & get bad vibes as well, but for some unknown reason I did not have a good feel for this place. We hiked all over of course.....up and down the banks of the Teton River.....

.....and Tanner hit the river as I'm sure you would have expected him to do.....

Our last hike of the day ended with this beautiful sunset.....

20200930_185335_copy_1600x900.jpg

The following morning we continued south through the fields of eastern Idaho.....looking east the Grand Tetons stood tall.....

20200930_163452_copy_1600x2844.jpg

Eventually Highway 20 connected with the interstate and that's the road we traveled on as we left Idaho behind and continued driving south.....

20201025_151635_copy_1600x900.jpg

Our next stop was in Brigham City, Utah.....

20201001_193242_copy_1600x900.jpg

.....where the truck got a new set of tires. Because I travel with such a heavy load I'm really aware of the condition of my tires & brakes. When I originally bought the truck I immediately swapped out the Michelen street tires with Hankook All Terrain tires that had a 60,000 mile warranty. But they were showing wear.....now the truck had 45,000 miles. I went with a Les Schwab brand tire.....another all terrain tire (Open Country) with a 65,000 mile warranty.....so far I'm pleased with my purchase.....

20201001_171853_copy_1600x2844.jpg

We hung out around the cities that line the interstate in northern Utah.....after a few nights we pushed further south.....stopped at a hot spring along the interstate.....not much nice to say about this one.....

20201003_094935_copy_1600x900.jpg

Somewhere south of Salt Lake City, Utah we left the interstate and drove east into the mountains.....

20201004_132000_copy_1600x900.jpg

We drove up a forest service road looking for a spot to overnight.....it was hunting season in Utah and I would venture to say that there were more hunters here than there were cars on the interstate. It was insane so we left.....drove further east and spent the night at a Walmart.....it was definitely more tranquil than the national forest.....

I actually just put the OpenCountry AT 285/75 R17 on my truck as well a few weeks ago. I was a little bummed they don't do Toyo's anymore. So far they have been good.

I zoomed the other day and found her, just forgot to post

I didn’t take the photo but was sent it post climb. I didn’t see Kenda until someone pointed her out to me. Viewing on a smartphone screen she just didn’t show well.

Love the pics !!!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does in your real world means you have ..... miles guarantee ?

Seems to me almost impossible to offer replacements - "for free" - if you do many off tarmac miles etc...
