My low buck & low tech camper

Here is the start of my new project. The Bronco was purchased a few years ago for $300. The trailer was $500 about 12 years ago. The topper was just purchased for $60.

The Bronco;

It's a '79 with a 351, and a 4 speed. I've done a shackle flip in the rear and swapped in a Dana 60 that was in a stale project. The front is the stock Dana 44 with 3/4 ton outers and 4:10 gears. The front lift is from Craigslist springs. Both ends are open while I wait for money for lockers.

The trailer;

That's a dodge bed on top of a Ford van chassis and a Chevy topper. The axle on it is a Dana 61. I plan to change it out with something that has less drag. I plan on modifying the rear opening to one piece of plywood with a door in it. Just to make it easier to get in and out of.

Before I looked at where you were from, my first thought was he must be in Western SD. Pretty close. :) (I grew up in Sturgis)

Cool projects.

Made a little progress on it today. Got it screwed down mostly. I'll have to take the tool box off to get the front screwed down. The bed has been wrecked and re straightened ish. The topper is old and warped. Also normal wear and tear on it. Resisting urge to get spray foam!

Also, it has come to my attention that I'm not 19 anymore! Nor do I weigh just 130 lbs anymore! Definitely going to need some sort of sturdy ladder system for the wife and I.

We are north of Donkey Creek Station enough. The coal industry has not picked up back like it was. Directly related to as why my build has to be so low buck.

Trying to latch down the front

I found these door hasp deals at Menards. Not as sturdy as I would like.

I have a question about pintle hitches. Is there any real need to have one that swivels? How bad do they tend to rattle? Is there anything that can be done to reduce rattle?

A little messing around with scrap wood

I've spent the past few days experimenting with some scrap wood I had lounging around the place.
