still having issues with the brake lights. I have never hooked up trailer wiring before, and I cant figure out how to get the brake lights to light up. the original trailer wiring harness doesn't work, so I had to hardwire the trailer wire into my lights. when I hook the break to the turn, it lights up the turn on my jeep.....and I need to get this fixed so I can take it to the highway patrol to get the title process started. any help would be awesome

If I'm not mistaken, the M416 (and all other style trailers) are 24volt and since modern vehicles such as your jeep are 12v, you have to rewire the lights to accommodate the difference in voltage.

hmmm, but that doesn't fix the wiring issue. the lights are working right now when I plug them in. I just don't know how to wire the brake lights to the trailer wire without it turning on the jeeps turn signals along with the brakes.

The later military vehicles were 24V. The only difference in the lights was the bulbs. Just replace the 24V bulb with the 12V version.

You only need to replace the bulbs - they're standard, and you can pick them up at any auto store. Just take the 24v ones in and tell them you want 12v versions.

The wiring is a whole other issue. I grafted a 4-pin into the plug panel tucked underneath the cover on the right side of the trailer tongue frame. It has been OK over the years, but I plan on replacing it with a 7-pin and ordering a new harness for the trailer itself. The other wires will be used to power other things (battery charger, etc.)

Yep, just remove those from the frame - they were only there due to the alignment with the brakes being over the spring before. The cable may sag a bit, but you'll want some room to flex anyway.

my issue is the truck wiring. I don't know how to make the brake lights come on. all the lights work, but I was reading and researching and the brake is supposed to attach to the turn signals.....but when I do that, my turn signals on my truck turn on when I hit the brakes. so I may be taking it to someone to have them re-wire my truck
