so after viewing this forum for a couple weeks, I was intrigued, actually, I was stuck the first time I saw this forum. so I searched and searched, and finally found an M416. I drove 8 hours to pick it up. and then 8 hours home. I got it for 600 plus the 250 in gas to get there. drove my Cherokee.....wish I had something with a little better gas mileage lol. anyways heres a few pics of it when I got it.

this thread will probably be alittle slow, since im starting it broke. and I don't have any welding exp or a welder. and ive never fabbed anything. this will be more of a budget build. I would appreciate any help or advice on this project. and thanks for having me here.

so far all I have done is add a hilift mount, and put a jerry can holder on the back with a jerry can.

Kool find.
I was all prepared to drive across the province to find one too. Then I get a call from a guy 2 hours away (1.5 of that is sitting on the ferry) saying come and buy mine. First, get the grinder out, fix the rust...after that take your time.

Looks pretty good - all pieces parts seem to be there. Does the parking brake work? You've got the Marine Corp version with the lift points. Really nice find!

Looks like an SOA is in order given the lift on your two vehicle... if the rust isn't too bad, you can do this very easily with a spin/flip maneuver of the axle and only loosening one spring hanger.

Enjoy!

Nice find. Spring over and she should be sitting close to level.
It is a tad lighter than the M105 you were looking at.

I still am dumbfounded at these that are still being found with their original lighting intact. That looks like a nice trailer to start with!

well I did the leaf over today. easy except the cables aren't long enough. I don't know where to relocate the brackets to get them to fit. also got a set of 5x5.5 for 25 bucks today. only three wheels but that's 2 for the trailer and a spare. painted them black with some aerosol bed liner. need to find a set of tires now to fit it. think im gonna put 33s or 35s on it. im running 35s on my jeep. and my new pintle hitch should be here tomorrow. only issues I had driving it back was a lot of side to side motion at speeds over 35. to fix this, I got some rubber tubing and zip tied it into the luneete of the trailer. and then I had to stuff cutoff zipties into where the hitch mounts to the receiver. there was about an 8th inch of slop side to side. I will get more pics soon. its sitting at a friends right now while the wheels dry.

im glad this was a good find. I was alittle unsure about how much I was spending. also I will be taking the stock lights off and selling them. along with the wheels and lug nuts. I will not be cutting any wires if I don't have to.

The parking brake cable (it's a loop) should fit - it's just a bit lower/higher (can't remember where they enter the backing plate). Post a pic and we'll see what's up.

I don't even know what there worth lol. and ill have to post a pic tomorrow. but to describe it, theres an adjustable rod up front with a u shaped mount that the wire goes around. the brakes are on the cable and have a housing about a foot and a half long that mounts to the body first then to the breaks. the housing starts halfway between the axle and the tongue. theres only about an inch and a half of adjustment to work with on the rod. but that doesn't adjust the housings. the housing have a certain length.....if this doesn't help you can wait till tomorrow for pictures.....lol. but so far im still in love with this trailer. I wanna put 35x12.5x15 but im not sure how or if they will fit after I did the swap and still leave room for flex.
If you weren't so far away, I'd buy those lights and wheels and tires from you!

so ive been thinking, and I came up with something. I cant quite afford a new RTT, so I was gonna see if I cant find a dome tent that will fit on a lid I make, so I can get a tent on top of it. I have a 2 person tent now, but its an 8'x4.5'x47". the m416 I have is 4.2'x6.1'. so that's alittle too big. if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

Check out the 2 person Tent Cots. I have seen a few people adapt them to trailers or roof top as RTT's. The 2 person is well, big enough for 2 and it should fit. The best part, they are like $300 bucks (I think Cabella's sells only the 1 man?) and with a custom made vinyl cover you could leave it up there year round like an RTT.

There was a guy in the trailer section here that made one fit his custom trailer, looked pretty slick and all he did was modify the legs and bolt it down. RTT on the cheaps!

My trailer did the same side to side sway action over about 40mph at first too. It went completely away the first time some weight was put in the front of the bed. Drove around a few miles to test the load in different areas of the bed and learned the sway increased the lighter the tongue weight got.

Nice looking trailer.
