I've got the JK ones installed now, as you say not a perfect fit but made it work. Airsoft websites are a good place to get cheap molle that looks the part here but does not need the full on strength of real gear.

I've had a '12 JKUR since they started shipping them, traded in my '06 LR3 for it, and with over 8500 miles on it I have not been able to get the stickered mileage (16/21). In fact, I get the exact same mpg (15.6 without my Gobi rack) as the LR3 did driving the exact same routes. The wife and I also thought that having a domestic vehicle would be a plus but so far it is mixed, the service is mediocre at best and i've only been there for the free oil changes. Both of us miss the LR3 alot more than we thought we would. The biggest advantage the Jeep has is the avaliability/ability of modding.

Brushogger: Certainly my experience is my perspective and only what I have found as what has worked out for me.
Are there times that I miss the rover ... sure ... I wouldn't be human if I didn't, because my love for rovers went on for 14 years.
But just recently, I returned from a 2 week plus trip (via plane) and when I arrived back home, it was nice to get in the Jeep and it crank right up. I have NEVER owned a 2004 (or earlier) Land Rover that could sit for two weeks and still crank! They ALL would lose their battery after sitting for a two week period. Jumper cables became my friend!
You have to make the best decision for your situation, ... but I am glad you are at least stimulated to think carefully through your own situation via the things you have read here.
I have always heard it better to walk through a mine-field in the foot steps of someone that just successfully navigated the same mine-field!

Hey Dendy, Got rid of the Disco and moved over to the other dark side. Ended up with a 2012 FJ Cruiser. We drove and liked both, but decided it better fit our needs.

The AEV suspension is in a class all its own. The handling is extremely noticeable on and off road. Also with towing. The Rubicon "notices" bumps with much more "bump" than the AEV.
Dugedug: I am not sure the answer regarding mileage ...
The Rubicon doesn't get as good of mileage as my heavily modified AEV. The other perplexing thing is that my sister in law drives a Chrysler car with the same motor as the JKU, and her car gets twice the mileage as the Jeep. Now, granted, we are driving aerodynamic bricks, ... but lots was done by Chrysler to improve the mileage of the JKU- even the slightly curved windshield yielded an extra mile per gallon.
The other thing that is curious, is that some days the jeeps get better mileage than other days. So, I don't know what to tell you.
Regarding service- In some parts of the Country, the land rover service writers are behind bullet proof glass ... that's for a reason!
Not so much on the LR3, but I often felt like on the Classic Range Rovers, DI's and DII's that the dealership (and I have a great relationship with my local landrover dealers- so I am not dogging them) was guessing on repairs. I'd take the truck in for something, they'd "fix" it, I'd pay through the nose for it, ... and then get 10 miles down the road, and it would be doing the same thing. Take it back, ... and them find another "cause" of the problem and still charge me to fix the second thing (as if ... they were just guessing the problem and the fix).

I love the FJ's. The main reason I didn't go with the FJ was the lessor mod ability with them and I found that the area in front of the rear side windows had a major blind spot for me. But- I do love the look of those trucks.

At $5/gallon for gas, I may be camping in my driveway this Spring! Seriously, we are doing most of our trips close to home lately. We do have great places - Land Between the Lakes, Fall Creek Falls, and the list goes on. But, you guys live and camp in an area near and dear to my heart. Hopefully we can at least make one long trek and meet up with you guys.

Thats why you should come out next weekend while the gas is still $3.60ish per gallon. Its only ~ 250 miles to the Dahlonega area... thats chump change for an AEV owner!
Ive been admiring your vehicles for years now... and still havent met you. Hope to get the chance soon enough!

Dendy - Great looking rig. It may be the perfect rig for my needs. I'm also an ex-Disco/LandRover groupie. However, I gave up the addiction about 6 years ago when I moved to an area where I had no dealer support. After owning a few Ford trucks, a great experience, I found the need to own another overland vehicle. Looking to pull the trigger on a 2012 JKU Rubicon soon! I just need to figure out if I want to drive the stock vehicle for a while or mod the vehicle early in the process. Decisions, decisions.

If you buy it modded by AEV or arrange with the dealer to do it at purchase you can finance a bunch of the mods, if that's what floats your boat.
See AEV's website for a list of dealers through which to order modified Jeeps, or who will do the work for you. Some stock AEV modded Jeeps.

It was explained to me and confirmed by Chrysler- (and was the same on the Land Rovers I purchased that were equipped upon new- initial purchase), if the modifications are on the truck when new and purchased by from a Jeep dealer, then those mods are covered by the warranty. I had my winch replaced on the LR3 once under warranty as well as the two tail light guards and rear ladder when it started to bubble with rust 2 years into ownership.
Check with you dealer however before you take my word.
