My next project, E350 Ambulance???

FWIW: I second the 12v cummins idea. Fuel versatility, and reliability. If you do get a ford diesel, make sure you get a 7.3L, the 6.0 is a pain to work on. Just my opinion, I have owned 3 different generations of Cummins trucks, and I have been impressed so far with the 7.3, but if I ever had the opportunity to put a 12v in my van I would do it in a heart beat. I have always found the Cummins easier to maintain, but that has been in a truck. The 7.3's aren't inter-cooled, but I have never found them to lack in power esp with a 4" down pipe and chip. I commend you for going with the ambulance, If I did it over again, that is what I would do. I have the extended version with a 12'x5' roof rack and I still tend to run out of space.

I'll keep the Cummins in mind but that's getting to be more involved than I intended to... I love 6 in-line, sure but the 7.3 isn't a bad engine either! Just a bit fat ;)

I would only consider the swap 7.3 or Cummins if you find another 4x4 already gas ambulance (I think the motor swap would be = to 4x4 swap,

plus ICBC will change to diesel on the ownership easier than 4x4 (especially if one is a factory option, if not a factory option usually an inspection including chassis inspection is required but being ICBC you can get lucky and person just does it (been down this road))

We have a van in the shop right now that will be getting a Cummins. The fun stuff will start around 2-1.

2-1? February 1st?

Which Cummins is it? I'm sure that will attract a lot of interest from the crowd. I'd love to do it all (Cummins, 4x4, body mods...) but at some point you got to pick your battles...

My Neighbour had a 12v Cummins, great engine but 4x4 ambulance s are kinda shy and when you find one its often older and i hear the 4x4 can be pretty basic compare to what Ujoint can come up with...

Cleanline, that's a nice unit you've got! I PM'd you my number, give a call when you have a chance... Curious about a few things.

Cheers

Hi Mr D,
can't wait to see your build....
l just bought a 99 ambulance that needs a tranny but the body is in not as good shape, wanted to replace my 97 E350 7.3 tow vehicle,l uses plantdrive components for my vegie conversion,l was in Moab in october 2012,l drove 950 km the first day on vegie before l have to switch to diesel, towing my BJ42 Landcruiser, but l have a big vegie tank under the van.

Hey Simon!

Good to hear from you! Never realized you had one of those, want me to help you get your next one? How was your trip back home, could you make it back with the oil you got from me? I'll call you soon...

Chris at Ujoint, I wouldn't mind giving you a call as well if there's a good time. Sounds like you're a busy man though!

Cheers

Mr D.

ever consider a E350 or E450 school bus? Lots of Diesels, and school buses have to be built for roll over standards (nice feature for a family)..

the lower purchase price leaves lots of room to build as you like....

Have not looked under a 1 ton but I bet you could slide the back axle backwards

I kinda looked at them but they are often wider and bulkier so I kept on looking at the ambulance... I'll take a second look at them just to be open minded! ;)

Someone else here suggested the same, also mentioning the steel frame/cage of the box...

Reversed axle?!? You're a better fabricator than I am!!! Hey, PM me your number, I don't think I have it...

Cheers
