FWIW: I second the 12v cummins idea. Fuel versatility, and reliability. If you do get a ford diesel, make sure you get a 7.3L, the 6.0 is a pain to work on. Just my opinion, I have owned 3 different generations of Cummins trucks, and I have been impressed so far with the 7.3, but if I ever had the opportunity to put a 12v in my van I would do it in a heart beat. I have always found the Cummins easier to maintain, but that has been in a truck. The 7.3's aren't inter-cooled, but I have never found them to lack in power esp with a 4" down pipe and chip. I commend you for going with the ambulance, If I did it over again, that is what I would do. I have the extended version with a 12'x5' roof rack and I still tend to run out of space.
