Need Help: New T1i or Refurbed XSi???

Hi,

Taking the plunge and am deciding (soon) between the T1i kit with 18-55 and 55-250, all new pieces. Or, do I save $100 and get a completely refurbed XSi with refurbed 18-55 and refurbed 55-250???

I figure one of these 2 will be a great starter. I would really like a D90 (used), but can't get it at the right price with lens, and the D5000 just doesn't do it for me.

This will be my first DSLR...and SLR.

Thanks for any help.

The D5000 is going to be just as good as that xsi plus has a lot better ergonomics. I would go for the D90 mainly because I own one and like it a lot. The best advise - buy the best you can afford. I personally am not a fan of the rebel line as I also started with one and about 2 years into it the flash stopped popping up. it still takes great pictures and at the time I was using a hotshoe anyways but the point is that it stopped working with no reason. The D90 is easily the superior of these 3 cameras. you also have to think about glass and future buys. If you buy nikon your stuck with nikon. if you buy canon your stuck with canon. glass will long outlive the camera body so what is your NEXT body gonna be? go "test drive" all three cameras for a few hours camera fit, ease of use, button locations, etc. I tested 4 cameras before I bought the D90 i played with each for 2-3 hours each before I purchased.

Actually forget help. :coffeedrink: Got too caught up in the moment and forgot that just a few months ago Canon/Amazon offered the XSi with 18-55mm and 55-250mm for $560. The T1i just isn't worth the $215 premium, and neither is the D5000. Good systems, but not that good. Plus, I'm too nervous about refurbed.

I actually like refurbished stuff. To me it means it had a small problem that the computers and robots missed when it was built only to be gone over with a fine tooth comb by real people when it came back to the factory.

I've never had a refurbished item that I have bought go bad on me but I have had a ton of new stuff need to be sent back to be refurbished.
