Even easier is to build the front frame out of 1x1 and the sides out of 2x1 and you will end up with a "L" in your inside corner leaving you a nice semetrical outside and two surfaces to weld/bolt to on the inside.

I dont want to seem to dense but any chance you can give me a visual? I cant seem to get how the 2" side (assuming corner too) would look semetrical to the front?

This would be looking from the top. Use a 1x2" to make the side of the corner, and a 1x1 to form the front of the corner. From the outside it appears as 2" from both side and front and give a surface to weld/bolt to on the inside.

rezarf, while i have you following this thread i have a question for you that ties into the whole, how to finish edges question.

On your thread (which by the way is amazing and im sure you aren't tired of hearing ) You have a couple of panels that are mounted on the outside of your trailer and stiched on the inside. My question is, how did you finish those external edges where the sheet meets the frame? Did you go back a weld and flap it all and i just missed it? I saw how you seeled and then riveted the panels on the inside of the frame but not this.

I used some kind of body sealer... 3m something or other to seal all the exposed edges of the steel after primer or before, what ever the directions called for. It was an acrylic based product. It went on after all the fab work. It should remain flexable and it was easy to apply

...if it makes you feel better, I still had to chase down a few leaks when it was all said and done. Used truckers caulk, per Mario's suggestion.
