I saw a 94 Ranger today, asking $2500 in Redding. Equipped with 33s, Rancho lift, fiberglass fenders...a desert truck out of place.

did you put a "trail rated" badge on :coffeedrink:

HAHAHA! You know that stuff only works on the Mall Crawler crowd. Did you know that they put those badges on the patriots and compasses? That's just like putting it on the dodge caliber. Next thing you know, they'll put them on the avengers.

Its and 8" ring gear and will happily handle 35s.

35's.................I thought you guys were talking about big tires, 35's are little league unless your in a Samurai. Guess Im just used to 10.25 Ring gears on my big trucks. So the front ring gear is 8" as well?

I have a new hate for compasses and patriots.

Your $3000 budget makes all the preferred choices unlikely. (rust free XJ).................
.

I can verify the poor resale value of the S-10 blazer and it's 4 wheeling capability. I have a ZR-2 and have kept it around because it is a great used vehicle and is not worth much. I have had it since new, they have some issues but it's all out there and easy enough to fix, also parts are plentiful.
.
If you plan to go big then don't look at S-10's. The drivetrain is bulletproof on stock tires, my 8.5" rear axle has been over some of the biggest peaks in the USA, yeah I have worn ball joints and idler arms out, but have never broke anything......
