New Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx Traction

A set of these in 285/75R16 replaced the stock Michelin LTX M/S 275/70R16 on my 80 series Land Cruiser.

Initial out of the box impressions:

They track straight with more of an on-center feeling than the previous tires.
Noise consists of a mild-to-moderate droning hum; noticeable but not deafening yet at this mileage.
And yes, they would be THE perfect tire if they were available in 255/85R16. :ylsmoke:

I got bad news fellas...
I had a seminar at work last week, and they said the Maxx Traction is going to be discontinued. They are shrinking the number of different models of tires that they will be producing.
So, if you end up buying these, make sure to buy at least 5 so you have a spare, 6 if you want to make sure. ;)

Wow, Goodyear is really moving stuff around. I think they are going to discontinue the Remington name/line completely.

Too bad, the Maxx Traction is a nice tire that interests me very much, but I guess they don't need the Maxx and the DuraTrac.

You're right on about Remington, and the fact that they are trying to eliminate the production of tires that would compete against each other.

Overall, they are REALLY cutting a large number of tire models, in our seminar last week, they had all the figures with percentages, and it ranged from 10-40% of Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly brand models that were getting the axe.
Remington, totally gone, some of those models will be migrated into the Kelly line, but not many.
The Fierce Attitude is going to be moved into the Dunlop line.

They are actually doing what other companies, namely Michelin have already done.
Have a premium line, a mid-high level line, and a cost-effective/entry level line.
Michelin has done this with Mich. - BFG - Uniroyal.
Bridgestone - Firestone - Roadking
But BS/FS has gotten away with the Roadking, and now they have the whole Fuzion line, more performance/tuner market.

EDIT: Back to the Maxx Traction specifically... I erally think it's interesting that they are getting rid of this tire right now. It has the snowflke rating, and was the best alternative to a true winter rated tire in some larger 18 and 20" rim sizes - across ALL manufacturers. So, for next fall and winter season, there will be somewhat of a void in the market unless another manufacturer steps up. Cooper has a couple of lines of LT tires that they offer as true winter tires, maybe they will expand the production of these sizes and grab more of that market? No idea right now though...

Okay, I lied... ordered a set of these today, and we'll go from there....

The deal on the Toyo's fell through, and I almost went with the KM2s... but, after talking with a few people, and how much I tow.... I had to cave-in and be practical... Dunlop M/Ts on their way....

I will keep pretty good track of usage, etc. Hell, I log my fuel etc...

are they still planning on canceling these tires? i wont be able to afford new tires till the end of the summer and i really like the look and price of them.

are they cutting the tire completely? or just some sizes?

Oil eater.
Consider a Toyo M-55. Precision build quality and very tough. They were designed for oilfields and other destructive road conditions. I had them on my '98.5 Dodge CTD. Almost no weight to balance. They do sing a bit at 45-60 mph. Kind of an AT+ tread.

Yeah, the price thing was a swaying factor on my end as well.

I had the money to get the KM2s..but, towing, and and such are still the trucks primary duties, and the KM2s are only Load Range D. I havent really heard anything bad about the Dunlops, except that they arent a mud tire....which I know..... And, the 400 I DIDNT spend going with the KM2s, made my wife happy.... more money for a cap, etc...

Oh well, we'll see how they perform in a 35inch, under my heavy truck...

Yes, they are canceling the model completely.
I was told this about 1.5 months ago by a regional rep. for Goodyear.

Part of the reason that they are getting rid of this model is so that they are not competing against themselves - namely the Goodyear Duratrac.

The Duratrac would be about equivalent in aggressiveness as the Toyo M55, actually the GY tire is a bit more aggressive, but the Toyo holds up against sharp gravel a lot better.
