New F150!

Glad you were able to find one...looks nice! I have traditionally disliked red but more recently I've considered red as my next vehicle color. Every vehicle in town seems to be white, silver, gray, or black so I appreciate that red is at least different.

I don’t care too much about color but black or navy blue are dealbreakers for me. Too hot and shows every speck of dirt.

How to fix your MPG display so it's more accurate:

Just incase you need 50 gallons instead of 36:

WHat are you going with for a topper?

Probably a Leer. I think all the major manufacturers are pretty equal in terms of quality. I like the look of the ARE "Overland" but not sure I need to pay an extra $200 for the blingy bed liner accent.

I've owned ARE, Leer and Raven/Glasstite toppers before, all were pretty good. I insist on the flat glass back window with the aluminum frame because the all-glass back windows are easy to break and hella expensive to replace. I actually got a Leer topper for $150 because the previous owner didn't want to pay to replace the broken all-glass liftgate (I had it replaced and it cost my more than I paid for the topper - around $250 IIRC.)

Only options I want are the vented win-doors on both sides. carpeted headliner, sliding window and tracks on the roof for a Yakima rack. Local shop quoted me about $2000 for that, color matched to my truck, which isn't bad considering that I paid around $1500 for a Raven topper for my Ranger in 1999.

An extra 14 gallons would be nice but at $100/gallon, not necessary.

Interesting link, though. Do they make aftermarket tanks for other trucks? I can't believe I'm the only one who hates the ~26 gallon tanks that most modern full size trucks seem to have. In fact, I crossed Chevy/GM off my list solely for that reason. At least Ford and Ram offer the OPTION of a bigger tank. GM, Toyota and Nissan don't offer such an option.

I can think of some GM truck owners who would be very interested in such a tank, even at that price.

I was able to get a printout of the window sticker. Interesting stuff. I don't know what an "XTR" is (that's the sticker on the back of the bed) but it apparently has the XLT equipment package (302a) which includes a lot of goodies like the power rear sliding window and remote starter (since I park outside I may use that this Winter.)

It has the 3.31 axle and the 7000# GVWR package. Also includes the "FX4 off road package" with skid plates.

It came with the 'box link' removable tie downs. They were actually still in their plastic packaging under the back seat. Pretty slick! I installed them last night because I'm trying to rig up a temporary wooden kayak carrier for our upcoming camping trip. They are 4 cleats that slide into the side of the inside of the truck bed and lock into place with a key lock. They can be removed and stowed when not needed.

The LED lights in the bed are pretty nice, too. Lots of trucks have a light that illuminates the bed on the back of the cab, but since I always have a topper, I never can use that. The LED's on the side of the bed I can actually use with a topeer installed!

And 18" tires. I was worried they might be 20's, not that it would be a deal breaker but 20's are more expensive. I would have preferred 17's but I can live with 18's. Tires look like they should have at least a year left on them. I'll have to see how well they do in the snow.

Who else takes the rubber/plastic air dam off the front? It looks like it hangs pretty low, easy to snag on a rock. I know it's there for better MPG but I can probably live without it.

I would have preferred the console. How difficult is it to swap it? Might consider that for the future.
No clue. Mine came with it as I have the sport package. I included the link to a youtube video showing the process in my previous message. Does't look too bad?

Yes and NO. 302A is the package that gives you the rear slider, heated seats, remote start.... and includes the XTR package.

The XTR package is a separate package that can be added onto a 301a package:

I didn't realize the XTR package was a Canadian thing though....

I still have the air dam under my front bumper. I was debating taking it off as well. From what I've read it fuel mileage may drop by 1 or 2 MPG?

It does hang pretty low...but in my experience, that thing is pretty flexible and just bends out of the way in most situations.

Yeppers, they make tanks for other makes too.

Which dealer was it through and were you happy with them?

Kentson Car Company in American Fork. They advertise in other markets besides SLC, I think I found them through Autotrader or Cars.com.

The transaction was pretty straightforward. I didn't haggle the price as it was what I considered to be on the low side of fair. Out the door for under $35k. Of course, it will be a come-to-Jesus moment for me when I register because that's when the Centennial state will sock me with taxes.

Ordered a Leer topper today. Another beating of the wallet but it's a one-time expense and since I plan on keeping this rig for at least 8 - 10 years I don't mind spending the $$ to get EXACTLY what I want (vented win-doors, carpeted interior, Yakima tracks in the roof and of course painted to match.)
