New Faces for SPOT !!!

A girlfriend of mine just sent me an email of proposed new looks for the SPOT Personal Tracker.

Looks like more than a cosmetic upgrade but she did not tell me anything of meaty details as this is still in development and her company is working with SPOT.

I hope they upgrade the antenna and have a better indicator of a successfully sent message.

If you don't have a SPOT already - they are uber cool and GREAT peace of mind for any adventure - check them out at www.FINDMESPOT.com

Don't like them, they look like a personal massager. Even the logo looks like it is vibrating.

I'll be buying one. A big complaint I have had with the SPOT unit is the attachment point or lack of. I simply wont trust the belt clip alone. It needed a solid point of attachment that you could loop some webbing through or clip a biner to it. This should work.

I think I see a little cover for the 911 button, which is both a brilliant addition and a total shame the first generation units didn't feature this.

I had my doubts about getting a spot device right away because the user interface needs to evolve much more - and they simply need to be integrating this with a hand held GPS mapping receiver so you only have the one gadget.

I think the lack of successfully received indicator is the biggest problem with the first model. Maybe adding the ability to receive would increase the price substantially?

There is a little envelope icon next to an LED - perhaps that is a send confirmation?

I think an optional mapping type GPS SPOT device would be neat, but the price might go way up and battery life could be compromised.

I imagine the new model will be several months in the making. From what I gathered, these are just a study of what will be the next ONE. I doubt they will offer all three.

I vote for number 3. I was thinking about buying a Spot soon but I might wait untill the new model comes out. One of my concerns with the current Spot was accidentally hitting the 911 button when the unit was in my pack, I like the idea of the cover.

Just purchased a SPOT a few weeks ago, from an ebay seller so not eligible for the $50 rebate. :(

However I reckon this system is just the best device for its money. I unfortunately left mine behind the other night when the 4WD club did a night drive that turned into a very serious, life threatening ordeal that ended with the loss of a Toyota Troopy. I failed to take the SPOT with us cause it was only suppose to be a 2 hour drive, 16 hours later we made it back. I had 9 GPS satellites locked on but could not use them, no SPOT and the sat phone could not maintain connection long enough to get a call out.

SPOT goes everywhere with us now.
