New Four Wheel Camper Kolibri

Four Wheel Campers is set to debut their newest model, the Kolibri, for Mitsubishi Mini Cab and Suzuki Carry trucks.

Approached by Intermountain Mini Trucks last year at the Salt Lake City Sportsman's Expo show to build a camper for them, Four Wheel Campers has delivered big things in a small package. This will be a great option for rural land owners and ranching operations who often send a ranch hand out to watch over various herds for extended periods of time.

Standard features on the Kolibri include a sink, twelve-gallon water tank, two-burner propane stove, propane bottle compartment with regulator, storage in the kitchen cabinetry, a couch that converts into a bed with a storage locker underneath, overhead full-size bed, ceiling lights, the classic Four Wheel pop-up roof with four large windows, 12-volt electrical system, and a 48-inch louvered window. Available options include a roof vent or fan, florescent light, forced air furnace, screen door, external floodlights, awning, auxiliary battery, and the Arctic Pack for colder weather. The dry weight is 650 pounds. With a full water tank and propane, the Kolibri weighs 775 pounds.

Further build details and photos about the Kolibri can be seen here in an interview by Truck Camper Magazine with Tom Hanagan, president of Four Wheel Campers.

I will be in Salt Lake City tomorrow to attend the Sportsman's Expo with the FWC crew. I'll be taking a few more photos and talking with Stan Kennedy about the Kolibri and other new models currently in the design phase at their facility in California.

Four Wheel Campers recently merged their Six-Pac facility in Riverside with their FWC facility in Woodland, to increase and streamline production as they delve further into the international market. Currently FWC has sent campers to Switzerland, Germany, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. As they continue to grow and expand their presence on a global level, they are creating new models to comply with each country's regulations. It's a very exciting time for Four Wheel Campers right now.

Very "outside the box" thinking.

I would be very interested in seeing some of these in the back country.

As of last week they are talking to a dealer in Canada, about bringing them in and distributing them for FWC. I don't recall which province or city, but I'll ask Stan tomorrow.

With all the RV/camper manufacturers closing their doors these days due to the economy, it's good to see that FWC is expanding. It seems they will survive these times and come out stronger as a result.:)

Thanks for the info KC.
And I thought my Hawk was small on the inside:)

Seriously though, it is great to see FWC come up with some new ideas. These little mini campers could be popular up here in Canada where fuel prices are higher than in the US and where 15 year old JDM mini trucks can be bought very inexpensively and are fully street legal.

Here is just one example from CL (not mine):
$3000 for a 4x4 with 21,000km and a diff lock!

There's a company in southern California that imports new mini-truck utility vehicles. I can't tell which country actually manufactures them.
http://www.vantagevehicle.com/

Look in the drop-down menu under "Vehicles" for a link to their 4x4 model, which is currently in development. When it's ready, it will be available in standard cab and van body styles.

The 4x4 standard cab has a bed that is 91 inches long and 58 inches wide. The payload is 940 lbs. The Vantage 4x4 will be powered by a 4 cylinder 1200 cc engine with 73 hp and 108 ft-lbs.

All Vantage products are strictly for off-highway use only.

It turns out that 11 states (Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and Wyoming) now allow mini trucks on some public roads. In these states, the mini-trucks are restricted from freeways and any road where the posted speed limit is higher than 55.

Hmmmm. OK in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. So we need to work on Colorado and New Mexico, and we'd be able to have a Canada to Mexico Rocky Mountains expedition in mini-trucks!
