New Four Wheel UTE Flat Bed Model Coming Soon ...

The Tacoma arrived with the bed on heavy duty OME suspension and a front bumper. AT removed the bed and fitted the flat tray, removed the rear bumper, manufactured a new rear bumper, installed new rear lights, and re located the rear camera. Installed an air bag kit to the rear suspension, installed the camper, added a rear rack for fuel cans and Maxtrax. We installed an Airflow America snorkel, and Bajadesign LED driving lights. The final step was designing four under bed storage boxes, they were manufactured locally, and then installed.

The full pictorial story is here.

Martyn, what model number UTE bed is that? Trying to figure out what specific model UTE bed fits the FWC Fleet UTE.

Anybody know what UTE bed they are using for the FWC flatbed camper? Looking for a model number or the dimensions of the bed itself.

The 2 FWC flat bed campers we have built so far for the small trucks like the Tacoma, we called the FWC Fleet UTE Flat Bed Model.

This is the size of the UTE flat bed they used.

(see attached pictures)

Just let us know if we can help with anything else.

Thanks !

:)

Is the floor hight of the flatbed higher than the floor hight of the original box bed? If so by how much?

Does the answer depend on the truck make and model?

Yes, it does sit higher and depends on the truck...AVERAGE 6 inches. The center of gravity is lower though because all the appliances sit at flat bed height instead of top of truck rail. Hope this makes sense.

Add much as I really want to send a down payment as this is what I really want, for the same price there are already outfitted compete Unimog trucks with campers for about the same price. I thought it would be easier to construct, not cost more then your normal models. I do really want one though.

Have you guys actually measured this?

In order for it to be true, the center of gravity would have to be more than 6" lower (since it sits 6" higher off the ground) to be an improvement.

I really like the concept and love the flat floor idea, but the extra overall height never did sit right with me.

I think the CG question has something to do with putting the water heater at floor height, instead of above the box rail, as well as dropping the refrigerator also to floor height. There may be other items mounted lower as well. Personally I'd like to see a semi-flat bed with small fenders above the bed, approx. at the same height as a pickup box, but with better space efficiency than a slide in, and lower floor height than a flat bed..... guess I'll have to build one myself.

Just get yourself a sawzall like this guy did and start cutting.

: )

(BTW: This was not a FWC customer. Just something I saw on Craigslist)

Attached is a floor plan of the Grandby UTE Flat Bed Model.

We have built 4 of the Fleet UTE Flat bed models so far, and 1 Grandby UTE Flat Bed model.

The Grandby UTE we build went to our new dealer in Australia, so the camper was built in a mirror image design for their market (right handed vehicles over there).

We are in the process of launching a new Four Wheel Campers website soon and we will be adding a page, specs, prices, & pictures for the flatbed models.

In the middle of Feb. we should have a new Hawk UTE Flat Bed model finished and on display in our showroom for customers to see.

Good things are on their way.

Thanks to all of the FWC supporters running around out there.

We really appreciate your business!

: )
