Here's my CB all mounted up. One problem a Dodge presents are good mounting options for CB's.. this was the best spot, that would still allow me to shift. I like it so far.. I just finished up the install by putting up an antenna on a custom antenna mount, that slides into my tow mirror on the drivers side, and running the coax cable to the CB. Very happy with it. All I need now is an SWR meter to check the antenna to make sure it's doing ok.

Ok guys.. are there any good suggestions for fire extinguishers, or is this an item that doesn't really matter, so long as you have one?

get a foam, not water, water does not help with greese/gas/electric fires. foam is messy...but we are talking about fires. get a size up from the small ones. fire extinguishers do no last long and trust me you want one that lasts more than 30 seconds just in case. mine cost around $65 from home depot

Good call. I've always used foam extinguishers in all my rigs, and plan on using one in my truck as well.

Ok, so I went to the toys4tots event today, and discovered that I get NOTHING on my CB.. No talking, no hearing others.. I looked around, and it looks like I chewed through my coax cable with the way it's mounted... and I probably will also need a new antenna, as the one I am currently using is probably junk... Frustrating, but I guess that's all part of building a rig...

the antenna may need to be tuned w/ an SWR meter... but I would just replace the broken cable and get the cb tuned= might be all you need.
If not, you can get a new antenna after.

If you get a new antenna, I had great success w/ a Wilson 1000. Sold it and just use the CB in handheld and use Ham mostly. It would be great if you got a ham setup too- it's great for range and clarity.

How do you have the antenna mounted and where? Depending on how and where its mounted can really effect how well it works. Most ppl think that as long as the tip is in the open they're good to go but the CB antenna actually recieve's the signal from the bottom section of the antenna. It should still work ok if the bottom is down in the bed or covered but not as well as it could. X2 on the tunning it as well. :)

I'll get some pictures of how it is currently mounted today.. but the antenna is mounted to a metal bracket that attaches to my drivers side mirror. I will get some detailed pics later today :)

Front Hitch

For a front hitch, check this out. I plan on getting on for my Ram. I've one on my other truck and they're really handy.

While a dedicated winch mount is obviously the best choice, sometimes it's hard to afford the best choice for everything.

You could even put a spare time mount it. Use to see that more often in the past than now days.

Yeah.. I have a slide in camper, that would be used for times when the wife and I just wanted to go camping, which is why I need a topper of some sort that is easily removable if need be... Seems like both the bestop and softtopper canvas tops would work well, and be fairly easy to remove to put in a slide in camper....

I have been researching winch mounts for my truck, and it seems as though I can't do much. Being that it's a diesel, my only real options are a very expensive new front bumper, or buying a front mount hitch and using a warn multi mount type setup.... I am leaning toward the front hitch and multimount setup, only because it's easy to remove if needed, and it would serve my purposes without spending a ton of $$...

Kilroy,
Those do look nice... But I can't seem to figure out if I would lose my factory tow hooks with that front hitch or not... I really don't want to lose my front tow hooks if I can avoid it.

It might not be THAT bad... losing the factory tow hooks... I could just get a D Ring unit that would slide into the hitch portion on the front (or rear) of the truck.

The hitch bolts on to your tow hooks. Don't know if you can still use hooks for straps, or not. Looks like there might be holes at the mounting points.
