Bringing this back since it seems to be the most recent Kodiak thread. I am looking to buy a good tent for my family of 4 and the 10x14 Kodiaks seems to be what I am looking for. Here is where I would like some guidance though, I am mostly going to be camping in Arizona I imagine Oct-May and maybe during the summer go further north to avoid the heat and camp there as well. Now do I spend the extra coin on the VX model with the windows or step down to the deluxe with the door window or just go with the old school one with just the two windows. Is going with the extra windows that the VX offers worth the $140? I am new to Arizona and only camped a few times in my RTT before deploying and selling my RTT and with having small children I am going to wait awhile before I do the RTT route again. Anyways, just looking for some help getting swayed one way or another. Maybe competitiveedgeproducts will offer 5% off sometime soon.
Get the windows for the best possible experience. We love ours. Sometimes I'll open all the windows for a panoramic view. Very much worth it.

i know that it aint the fancy makes me feel special tent, but i just love my Coleman Instant Tent. i can set it up in two minutes, dont require stakes and can have it down and packed in 3. all by myself. if you watch amazon enough the 8 person one gets to about 100 bucks at times. if you have never seen how easy this is, watch this video. 1.5 minutes up, and 2 to take it down. (yes it is really that easy for one to set up) and for the price, i could by 5 of them (if i threw away my tent every other year, that would be 10 years of tents.) but then i do have budget that 600 bucks for a tent dont fit into it.

How to you close the windows if there is rain?

They zip on the inside of the tent, from the bottom "open" to the top "closed" with rugged YKK zippers. I use my kids to do the zipping, lol. We have the VX 10X14 sleeping four on cam-o-bunk disc-o-beds set up as bunks. Plenty of room to change/stand up in the middle and plenty of ventilation with all four sides zipped open. The tent is heavier and maybe not as quick to set up, but it is a tank and won't be blowing away or have the poles torqued by any wind. The cots take longer to set-up than the tent itself!
