New Snug Top Shell for Tacomas

I wish the truck was closer to me in NY. The only other options I want are A-trac and rear locker, but I'd settle for that Tacoma.... Also, in NY they would have to honor the web price

I just got off the phone with the dealership and it looks like we've found a booboo. It's not quite the screaming deal as shown. The website currently lists the truck as $35,050. I spoke with their sales guy Brian and asked about the website listing and the sheet of accessories listed on the window of the truck which is shown in my original post. The sheet of accessories is not currently mentioned nor shown on the web listing. He said there appeared to be an error on the web listing because the accessories sheet is supposed to be a part of the listing. We'll see how long it takes for the web listing to be corrected, but it appears that the $17,211.82 total on the accessory sheet needs to be added to the $35,050 price, for an actual total of $52,261.82. I've had good experiences with the service department at this dealership and really hope this is an honest mistake and not a bait-and-switch.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the on-line price, I thought it was probably a mistake on the part of web-sales guy. I would venture to assume it was an honest mistake and not bait n' switch.

Cheers

ARE has made a shell with a single rear door that is contained inside a one-piece liftgate for several years. Like this one, they are quite expensive.

The only thing I dislike about these (besides the cost) is the necessity of getting rid of the tailgate. Tailgates are really handy, in fact, I wish my 4runner had a tailgate instead of a liftgate.

I disagree! The tailgate is always in the way. If I didn't have to have a tailgate I could fabricate a step for my reciever that didn't have to stick out two feet because the gate is in the way. I sent them a mesage today to see if this canopy will fit a first gen Taco.

I love this design but just coming from two wranglers , I remember how bad I wished they had a tailgate instead of a swing out. Better then a lift gate style hatch but I love a tailgate.

Seems to me, the one to have is the Snug-pro CHU- same rear door, plus side tool boxes. The cap could fit the cab a little nicer though.

Those are pretty slick as well. More functional in some ways. Also dependent on how many are sleeping in the back.

I dunno, I use mine as a work bench most of the time. I sure would miss it if it was gone. Don't care for the barn doors on our Trooper, they have this
safety hinge, that props the door open...seems like I always have my hands full fiddling with that thing to get them to close, where as a hatch on the topper
is easier to deal with...at least to me.

Though, barn doors would make sense on a Flip Pac...

Bed is way different between the 1st and 2nd gens. 2nd Gens are wide! About the same width as 1st Gen tundras to my eye (not Double Cab tundras...those are wider)

Not true. Outside dimensions are only slightly wider at the fender flare. Inside edge of the bed rail is actually about .5" narrower on a 2nd Gen bed than it is on a 1st Gen. I know from building bedracks for both models. That being said, toppers for either model should fit both gens of truck. The contours against the cab may be slightly different and if the topper has a outer edge that drops over the side of the bedrail at all then there could be issues but if it's a truly "flush" mount, then it could work for both.

Interesting! That's great info. The truck, overall, seems so much wider than a 1st gen.

I was thinking the same thing for that kind of coin. Plus you can configure the side shelves the way you want (if you did) in the commercial one.
