New tires for a coleman popup

I have an early 80s coleman redwood seven popup that is in desperate need of beefier tires. I flipped the axle for more clearance and plan on taking the sawzall to it and opening up the wells for something bigger than the wheelbarrow tires it came with (5.30x8 no joke)
So the question is whether or not i can stick a set of 4 lug honda civic wheels with a fairly aggressive all season tire on it?
Theoretically it should work, if the 4 lugs match up and the tire isnt too big it should fit, but thats theoretically. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing. I tried searching on some popup forums but apparently the majority of the popup crowd isnt into this sort of thing. thanks

heres a pic of it at lake mcconaughey last summer

We are in the same boat man!! I have a 1971 pop up that I am making off raod ready (more than my current axle flip and slightly larger tires)! I measured my frame and found I can do up toa 14.5" wide tire, so what I have chose to do is put a rover axle under it(and other suspension parts) and 32 X11.5 tires! Now the plastic wheel well wont fit the 32 But there are other ones from summit and other places that I can use.. i just loose som cabnit space(Gotta give up something I guess)!

PHEW, so after all of that I would say if the bolt pattern is the same measure your frame space/wheel well if all is good I'd imagine you are fine!

Don't forget to allow for the additional leverage the taller tires apply to the lightweight axle. You should probably upgrade the axle and add brakes, IMHO.

When I did some searching for other than trailer wheel/tire combination for my trailer frame, I found this page. My trailer axle has a 4.80x12 4on4 tire/wheel. So a Vega wheel will work for a larger wheel.
Just make sure you measure correctly on the lug pattern.

This looks like a sweet project!

-new axle w/ brakes
-new leafs and hangers
-matching wheels and tires as the tow rig

This would be a nice combo to help aid it on the trails

awesome replys everyone, i knew i could count on the expo crew. had it not been for that page jagular posted i would have assumed all 4 lugs were the same lol ill see what i can do about measuring the bolt pattern and finding some rims. at what point does a trailer need brakes? im pretty sure the axle is a 2100 lb unit so would that withstand a larger tire, keeping in mind that the whole thing fully loaded is under 1500 lb i think?

thanks again everyone

with any luck ill have this done for my spring break moab trip, keep your fingers crossed!
