I am looking to link my 85, but I am still researching that.

What kind of info are you looking for?

As mentioned, Yotatech. There is a ton of great info there, though you do have to sometimes seperate the wheat from the chaff.

Also:
Roger Brown is the guru. The site can be a little tough to navigate though. I linked the one I find as the most useful starting point. Roger also makes and sells some stuff, but he hands out plenty of free advice.

Also can be tough to re-find some articles that you "know" you saw there. Best bets are the 4runner, tech, maintenance, and minute mod tabs then scroll down to links at the bottom of those pages.

Yeah I've got some intell for ya mete: Wlecome to owning one of the best 4x4's ever made IMO... They may not be fast but they'll get you there and back better then most. As was said before, there are actually quite a few of us here with 1st Gen 4Runners and I think we'd all agree that they're great trucks.

I have the exact same truck (don't know what color yours is but mine's an 89 22RE 5spd as well) and it's been better then great to me. They're unbelivably well built but a little underpowered. Gearing is crucial if you're goign to run bigger tires and heavier loads.

Cheers adn Welcome

amen to that. I love mine. Its a love hate relationship but everytime I look at replacing it I just cant bring myself to it. Even my Jeep friends love it. They are a great rig and I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. If you have any questions your in good company here so just ask them and we'll see if we can help.

x2, I've been trying to kill mine (while keeping the body off the rocks) for 4 years now. It just won't break no matter what kind of stupid I do to it. :costumed-smiley-007

See what I mean man... There are now what 4 more people since I posted, all 1st Gen 4Runners, and all fans it sounds like eh ;) :D

I have this big smashing (I think...) idea of doing something like the Safari pacific Ranger out of a second Top and making the farthest rearward windows into exterior storage bins. I really think that with the bolts and rail already there (not to mention a pass through) for the stock top, it's just begging to have a camper shel adopted to it. You'd have to pull your roll bar but O-well... just a wild idea I'm mulling over for mine at the moment.

Here's something to get you motivated:

New 33's, marlin Rear Bumper, new 22RE full long-block with 5000+ miles on her now, 5spd and stock single gear-driven T-case w/stock gears (i'd love to find like a 3.2 Low range gear set: not too low like 4.7 in a single but great for pushing big tires...) OME Springs in the rear, OME shocks all around and their steering stabilizer. I'm also really really REALLY wanting to re-paint it desert tan with a black Lin-X'd lower body area from the last contour line down to the sills.

This is not my truck but I feel like he was on to something, but I think I will use the the bed rails and bolts in a very clever way ala Land Rover to create an external load rack over the top so it can be used top on or off.

SO now you need to show us your truck... It's only fair that you have pics of a new truck in your very own new truck thread...
