Did your tranny end up being ok??

Yep! Turned out the harness to the RSS had a broken wire to it. Sometimes it worked sometimes not. The speedo would go nuts every time the rear hit a good bump.

I just cut the last two feet of the harness and installed a new connector. She shifts great now. A bit of a hard shift from 1st to 2nd but it holds strong.

Rear speed sensor, on top of the rear diff...it sends rear wheel speed to the PSOM (programable speedometer and odometer module(on back of the speedo)) from there the signal goes to the trans and PCM (Powertrain control module). From the research I've done it seems like they give a lot of people problems, the PSOMs also.

Ah, ok. I believe in my model year they called that the vss, variable speed sensor. Something I'm going to go ahead and swap out just for giggles so I have a known history. You said you chopped out some wire and put a new plug on. Where'd you get the new plug?

Some models actually have both, or one or the other sometimes.

This is the RSS, you can see the connectors in the picture and it actually has two connections, the main harness and then the sub harness to the connector. I cut out 2 feet out of the main harness and got rid of that sub harness all together

This is the VSS

The VSS is located on the tail of the trans. I got this one when I asked for the RSS originally, which my truck doesn't have.

I got the connector from autozone for 10.00
