New VDEGs: Vehicle-Dependent Expedition Guide

We have the very last three of the VDEG 2.1 on the way to the US with the Quiet for a Tuesday order.

These will of course be the most unique of all the inventory, as they are from Tom's personal inventory and signed by the author.

Give Chris a shout if you are interested. service (@) expeditionswest.com

I have a friend who ordered a copy earlier this Spring directly from the Royal Geographic Society. It took several weeks to arrive, but at least he got a copy. And I believe it was around $100.

I know for a fact that my friend purchased a copy directly from RGS. He contacted them by phone (not by email) and it was posted to him no questions asked. In fact he actually ended up with two copies. The first one was lost in transit so they sent him a replacement. Some 6 weeks later the first copy showed up. He would probably sell the extra copy if asked. He was hoping to get $200 for it.

That 70 Pound (plus shipping) cost puts a kind of cap on the used market, until the RGS stock runs out. Amazing what the used market for the hardbound ones is on Amazon. (right now $182-450 for six examples)

Just spoke with Tom Sheppard! Now I'm not anyone special in the 4x4 community nor do I know Mr. Sheppard but I inadvertently found his website Dessert Winds UK and rang them up because their page on the VDEG book indicated that there are a few quantities left of edition 2.2 of the book. The person who answered told me they had recently just run out of stock but there were plans to do another reprint with some minor updates. I asked how I could be put on the list of potential buyers and he took my name and email address. I then asked whom it was I was speaking with and that's when he told me he was Tom Sheppard... Wow, didn't realize how easy it is to reach him! Pretty cool!

If you want to be added to the list of buyers, just email them at mail@desertwinds.co.uk and ask to be added to the list.
