Newest old Chuck Box found by dumpster in Afghanistan.. after a rocket attack..yeah.

So I have been getting an education on many things on this site for Wife's and my trip upon return to the States. One thing I have been drooling over is a Compact Chuck Box to match or compact travel philosophy. So here is the story. A couple nights ago the Taliban kicked off their annual fighting season with a Rocket Attack early in the morning. They are getting better at it but still didn't hurt anyone. Being annoyed I made my way to the our TOC once the "All Clear" was given to survey the damage. Luckily the rocket attack disrupted the trash pickup and delayed it a number of hours. Passing a dumpster I found one of these in solid but worn condition. WW 2 era (according to my research) Compact field desk by a dumpster. I snatched it up loaded it with goodies it will be on its way home. My guys told that there is a ton of these things and other older storage chest at the DRMO lot on our camp. Apparently units have been getting rid of them (even in good shape) in order to get the new cooler pelican plastic type. I wish I had more than a day left here because I would go grab them. (DRMO lot is free picking for left over gear). Mine is missing its guts and is just a empty box. It has names written all over it and several markings. The wood is good, a little rust, the hinges lock down tight but the hasp is rusted but closes and your able to lock it. The leather handles are pretty worn but still hold its weight.

So any opinions or ideas???

First and foremost, duck that spring offensive and hurry back.

Second, what a find! An amazing piece of kit. I'd search high and low to find one with the guts, especially with the dovetailing and flush drawer pulls, just beautiful. All my gear is Pelican and I'd trade it in a heartbeat for something like this. No guts? I'd go resto like your pic, adapting gear to fit it instead of the other way around.

That is fantastic. I love the idea of those old field campaign desks

Totally impractical, but extremely cool

This is Theodore Roosevelt's desk used in Africa during the 1910 campaign, working with the Smithsonian.

i found this antiquing last weekend.

what is it you ask?

its an antique field survey desk that folds flat and has an angle adjustable writing surface.

they want 450.

im gonna offer 200, i thought it would go nice in the alaskan camper, and add some class in the field.

if they dont take 200, and someone else wants it, let me know your limit, and ill pick it up. u pay shipping.
