Yes I learnt this weekend that the dealership had been less than honest with me about the availability of the axle. They use these on Rpods as well and its apparently a well know point of failure. I have contacted Lippert to see if I can get a new one under warranty.
and if so, I plan on doing some bracing as you @NatersXJ6 suggested
