Just returned from a quick OBX trip, had a great time! Nothing extreme, but I did at least get to lock the hubs
We left Asheville Thursday after lunch, and pointed the van east. Our ferry ride was booked for Friday AM, so we crashed at a hotel.
Here's the van loaded up with the new awning. Always something, I paid for it by CC, and of course they sent it COD certified check only. PITA.
After the 2 hour ferry ride..... Ocracoke!
Made it to camp, there were only a few people camping. It's still pretty early, so that was a nice benefit. Everything was great until the mosquitos decided they could no longer survive without MY blood. They were swarming me! I didn't expect them to be so active this early in the year, guess I was WRONG!!
Before we went to sleep, I decided to abandon camping & get a room. I can't handle the mosquitos. Plus, bad weather was on the way & I want to keep my girl happy. So to town we went!
Spent the rest of the day relaxing & reading. Waiting for the storm. It finally came through in the evening, after the most amazing lighting show I've ever seen. It was windy all day, but Ocracoke dodged the big storms that devastated the mainland. Lost power for a few minutes, and the storm blew over.
Sunday was beach day. Locked the hubs & headed towards the sand. It was beautiful, perfect day.
And the icing on the cake....
Monday AM, back on the ferry, time to go home
It wasn't long before we saw some tornado damage. I noticed the trees across the highway from this neighborhood, like nothing I've ever seen. The twister went right through the neighborhood, the destruction was insane.
The area was packed with people cleaning up & helping out. Lots of crews. I drove by & stayed out of the way. After that, the van got us home in one piece & now it's back to work!!!!!
