The rear door is going to be changed as well.

The lid that will serve as the top of the tent it's done.

4 hinges on the front so the top can flip up.

And here it rests on the rear door's lower half frame.

The roof is made out of 1/2'' marine grade plywood painted with marine grade polyurethane sealer.
I hope that this time will keep the plywood from delamination
There is also going to be a roof ventilation hatch that will serve as a sun (or shall I say moon?) roof LOL.
Made a ''lip'' out of plywood to keep it water tight....

I got these two hatch covers made of lexan almost for free.25''X26''.
To buy a full set with frame of this size I would have to pay at least 180$ each.
So I'll get creative...




One is going to be on top of the roof and the second on the upper half of the rear door.

Here's a pic from the side.
The pic itself cannot justify the interior height,but I can easily stand up in the rear part and I'm 6' tall.
I've been using the tent trailer in its initial form in the winter more often than I originally intended, so being
able to stand up and change clothes while raining and so, was a must have feature....

The rear door will be split in two pieces.
The lower will flip down and will also serve as a climb in stair.
The upper is going to flip up.

The top once lifted rests on the rear panel.
I will also put a pair of gas struts once i figure out where to place them LOL.

After a long time of not doing anything on it (life got in the middle once more) I decided to skin the back (back door)
and put some plastic fenders.
I went with plastic because of ease of installation and since i won't be bashing the trailer here and there....

And with some dad's help worked on the back flip up panel that supports the roof
and a the step ladder.

Looks great.

I comment on the axle - now almost 10 years later (and how old was it when you started?) - the axle still in use as-is . My Suby-trailer axle is now like 25 years of hard use and still rolling around with whatever I load (overload) onto it, and it was an early-80's Subaru 2WD Wagon before it was my trailer - so like 35-plus years old. Supple torsion axles are very durable.

Your Dad is awesome now in his 70's and helping you out
