Haven't posted in a while so thought I'd update.

Next I built both of the doors up front and rails to hold the fridge slide.

Also added angles from frame to wheel wells to act as steps for adjusting tent and deflectors for brush along the trail.


Also started building tent rack and telescoping posts/mounting brackets.

Ha ha, it took a couple rolls of film to get that masterpiece...

I just laid them down and pulled the inner post out to different lengths to show they were adjustable - didn't take more than one picture.

Glad you enjoyed the artistic composition enough to comment on it.

Great build. I'd like to see more of it, and particularly what you used for the roof top tent to raise it up.

Finally got my build far enough along to take it out over Thanksgiving.

I drilled holes on 1.5" centers on the inner posts



Then cut squares for caps, and drilled a hole in the center and welded a grade 8 - 9/16" bolt to each one.


I found some 9/16" rod ends that thread onto the bolts, after they were tack welded on top of each post for testing.


I next I built a rack based on 23 Zero recommendations for my Walkabout87. Ordered gas struts to mount/connect my inner post to mounting brackets and lift the rack/tent.

I welded pop pins and nuts to hold clamping knobs to the side of each post for height adjustment and securing the post at desired ht.

After test fitting and ensuring it was going to work, continuous welded the caps on top and mounting brackets onto outer post sleeves.

Raised to top position to allow walking under tent without hitting head.


Then took everything back apart and cleaned up for paint.

That's really cool. How is the stability? does it sway at all when entering or while you are in the tent? I'm looking to add something like this to my trailer at some point, but want to be able to raise the tent.

The posts are solid and have no sway or movement at all with the clamping knobs tightened. I've only used it once so far but the only movement I felt is when you are in the tent and someone else is climbing in, that was due to only having the suspension supporting the side without ladders. I'm building some detachable drop leg stabilizers to help with that, but it was barely even noticeable anyway.

Next I built the frame for the elevated gear floor (that will cover the water tanks and kitchen pull out), built brackets to hold the water tanks in place, and welded a piece of metal to one of the front doors to hold the water heater.


After ensuring everything was going to fit, I pulled it all out to start painting the upper box frame and putting a second coat on the under carriage.



Next I masked everything off and primered the bed before spraying bed liner on the bed of the trailer.

Next it was time to focus on electrical.

First I installed and wired running, reverse and marker lights as well as wired up electric trailer brakes. Used marine grade wire and heat shrink connections for everything and encased all wire in mesh conduit - so hopefully I won't have to ever do that again!







Then I ran marine grade wire for Redarc BCDC charger. And built mounting brackets for circuit breaker under the hood and SB120 connection under rear bumper.

Next, I built brackets to hold perforated server panels to hold my electrical equipment.







Also welded brackets to hold my battery and started laying out equipment on panels.

Very nicely done. As I start back to working on my trailer build this spring I'm likely going to be shooting you a message to get more details on you tent lift. It looks really well done and I'd love to be able to keep things down low while on the road, but still be able to raise it up so that the vestibule is usable when in camp. I've got a 23Zero Byron RTT that will be going on top of my trailer. (One Swell Trailer - link in signature.)
