Darwin to Halls Creek
3 very hot days of travelling
daytime temps hover around the 42 deg C mark, at night it drops to about 34
If we dont get a break in the weather its going to be a long hot drive back to Perth
Matching fuel consupmtion figures from the trip up I find im burning about an extra litre to the 100Km, Im now doing about 23.6L / 100K
only diference is, im not carrying the tinnie on top anymore (sold it in darwin)
often wondered wether thhe boat had any aerodynamic qualities, obviously it did

Ill have to try a stretch with the A/C on to see what it does to fuel consumption

if the boat on top improved the drag coefficient on your vehicle,

it would be nice to see some airflow with smoke and all flowing back to front, when you get the time :)

i foresee 'some' turbulence past the cabin, how it interacts with the now square cabin(edit : i meant camper box).

Port Headland to Karatha
spent the morning trying to escape the humidity
then the heavens opened up
howling wind, driving rain and road vis down to about 10 feet. That lasterd for about 60K's
thank god its to warm for hail.
by the time i pulled over for the night I thought I had escaped it
but no here it comes again
These pics were taken before sunset although youd never pick it

The Horizontal Falls off Derby in the Buccaneer Archipeligo is a spectacular part of the world with an awesome tidal effect caused by the massive tides forcing thier way through narrow channels in rock.
You fly out by seaplane then spend the day in a blow up boat powered by multiple massive outboards shooting rapids
The flow of water in some cases is so strong that it creates a 3 meter water step at the gap.

Made it
back in Perth (BOOO)
fuel consumption went up to about 25L/100, thats what the aic con and a heavy right foot will do
got so bad that on the freeway into Perth I was actually doing 100K - not 100 on the speedo which is actualy about 90 but 100 by the GPS
and with my van in tow thats really pushing it
so now its back to the mundane existance of work, mortgage, bills etc
think I need a project ???
any sugestions :victory:

What about building a truck/caravan combination that you could use to travel around Australia with... ;)

that ones already sorted
once the van goes on the market ill offer the truck up as a matched set if someone wants it
buy an FG84 and build up a tray and slide on camper body
if i cant sell the truck ill remove and sell my current tray and body and do the same on the SWB chassis
but thats a long term project and one for the drawing board

Hey stu, pretty sure it was you that I saw in Rockingham this morning, in the truck? I was in the green canter that went past at the lights.

hahahaha yea wonder why that was.. the desert sand is much nicer.. :p

at the moment just fairly run of the mill 255/100R16 XZLs, on 16x6.5 single rims (they are aftermarket rims to suit singles, both load and track).
i got them coz we just had them sitting around, and wasnt ready to fit up my big 20" wheels.
they are a bit taller than the 19.5s, and a little skinnier. lot better offroad (they actually have sidewall) but wear lots faster. and they are a bit light on for the full weight of a canter rear axle.
Andrew.
