I am not talking about your build. You did not start the thread.
If you did not understand the point I was making then perhaps others may be confused so I will make it again.

I was able to build a brand new (FRESH) 4x4 SMB by starting out with my used SMB 2WD version and then having Chris at Ujoint
put all his goodies onto it. That meant that I had all new hardware on the VAN with his 4x4 stuff plus other goodies he never stops thinking up.
To me I would rather do the conversion with Chris and have all new 4x4 hardware over buying a used 4x4 SMB with 100,000 miles that has been off roading already.

I do think toolman is right about how much money can be saved by doing your homework and making the list of must have's
and the items that you probably will never use much.

I had 2 SMB's. Sold the one completely decked out by SMB as it was too cramped. Kept the one that had the Penthouse only and a few
other cabinets. That is the one Chris is doing his magic one.

Maybe my reply was misunderstood. I don't feel attacked in any way, and I'm not offended. I'm just parlaying my experience building, and a couple of very good points were brought up that I never thought of. I'm on board with your logic.


However you have some used accessories, my point was that everything installed into a DIY is new :sombrero:

Which was the point I half way understood, but once my mind went down that trail it was a happy ending for sure. You made my day.

I am in the middle of building an ambo right now and I can tell you that it is tough to stick to a budget because once you get into it, at least in my case, it seems easy to add things that you didnt originally think about. So I wish you the best of luck in that department.

As for the 4x4 part...... We own a very nice Quigley 4x4 van that rides on 33" tires. It is a daily family vehicle for a family of 7. Chris @UJOINT will be installing his 6" kit on our ambo along with 35" tires. I have ridden in two other rigs he has built and I can tell you hands down that his conversion/kit/build rides way better and handles extremely better than our Quigley. Chris was actually giving me a hard time last week and asking me if I was planning to sell my Quigley once our ambo was done. I immediately said "no". However, my wife and I have discussed just that in the past few days. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a UJOINT van.
