Weize batteries have done me and a few friends pretty well over the last few years. We do not abuse our equipment but definately put them through their paces and have held up very well.

Any review you find that's older than ~6 months in this area is more or less out of date. Things are changing particularly rapidly right now as mfg's switch from bulky prismatic cells (individually packaged in metal cylinders) to flat polymer cells
Technology is great. The whole world advances everytime someone invents something new.
I have 3 agm batteries. One is from 2006. The other 2 are Cabelas X-900 agm .They are all still working and charge to 13.6v. Sometimes simpler is better. Sometimes not.
