Opinion on used Toyota Tundra

I have ~16k cash and would prefer not to take a loan, though was considering a 5-6k loan potentially. If I could get this F-150 for ~10k, I'd have quite a bit leftover for potential repairs, service, or an offroad focused suspension upgrade. Would I be getting a significantly better truck if I shopped around more in the 15K range than 10k? Or could the extra cash be better used for customizing and maintaining a 10k rig?

Thanks for any ideas!

Well, we feel that we got a pretty good value on our truck at that price point...

So, after some looking around, I have found this. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2342981062660921/?ref=messenger_banner

Similar miles, also black, also 6in fabtech lift (though not sure what kind/ quality yet), a 2007, and an F-150. Half the price.

To me, it seems to be a similar quality truck, right? I know Toyota has a reputation for high mileage/ reliability, but I have seen lots of reports of 250-300k F-150s of this era.
But it seems that F-150s sell for considerably less than Toyotas.

The KBB of this truck is pretty similar to the 2008 Tundra, I got 8-10.5k range for this F-150, with the Tundra at 10-12? However, the Tundras seem to be selling for at minimum a few thousand above that. Are Tundras of this era really higher quality than F-150s?

This F-150 seems to be a bit above KBB, (Facebook marketplace says 5.5 - 9, but that seems a bit low), but that is just the listing price.

I am assuming it has the 5.4 in it. Those motors were problematic from 2005 onwards. Do some research on those motors and the issue with cam phasors. I had that issue with my Expedition. I won't buy another Ford from that era.

The lifts and wheels on these are for show. They are a sales feature for other people who like that look, but if you want "offroad focused" that is something else.

I think you'd be better off looking for a something clean and stock with low miles and service records. Even if you need to get a small loan. And there is a reason the Tundras hold their value better.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used, lifted, truck.

If looking at a 2007 / 2008 truck, I'd pick the Tundra over an F150 with the 5.4. FYI... I also own an F150. (not a 5.4)

I 2nd buying as clean and low mileage stock truck as possible. Then modify the truck as needed. It might turn our you don't need that 6" lift?

No affiliation. Just saw the ad here and thought of this topic.

You said your budget was $16,000. For less than that we got a stock 2007 truck with only about 3,000 miles on it. It has 425 horsepower, full-time all-wheel-drive, selectable lockers, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, automatic overdrive transmission, ABS, traction control, and a bunch of other stuff. But it's not a Toyota...

Many people say they would not buy a modded or lifted truck. Would you ever buy a truck sold on the classified section of the forum? Or only with a personal friend that you know has done the modifications correctly/ the way you'd want them?

@MTVR What kind of truck did you get? Seems like a great situation, I haven't seen any cars listed online with such low miles. Did you buy from a dealer?

I bought it in an online auction. It originally cost $250,000, but I got it for $15,500. One owner. It is an MTVR.
