"Overland Edition" Tacoma at ToD

Saw this at Toyota of Dallas today when I took my truck in for service :drool:

Spoke to one of the salesman, who told me it's featured in Overland Journal (hence the stickers). I may be going back to test drive it this afternoon when I pick up my truck. :wings: This is probably not a smart idea, I can see me getting myself in trouble...

A couple of our Toyota dealerships in SLC (KMT & LHM) keep a similar truck on the lot from time to time, either a Tacoma or FJC. They sell really well too as they are always doing another. Theirs are not consistantly built though, they bounce around between accessories and such. It would be really neat to see a consistent lineup built, I'm wondering if that what ToD is working on? Cool if they are

They might want their tech to look at the ARB instructions though, that pretty white paint will get some rubbing and potential fender damage with that gap

I apologize if this wasn't supposed to be let out of the bag, but since they have the truck on display at one of the most aftermarket-involved Toyota dealerships in the country in plain view sitting 50 yards from one of the busiest highways in Dallas, and the salesman couldn't get out there fast enough to tell us everything about it (including its affiliation with the magazine), I didn't get the impression that they were trying to be secretive about anything.

Having said that, I'm happy to delete the pics/post if anyone would like me to, although I'm not sure how much good it would do at this point.

The suspension was OME all around. I don't want to step on any more toes, so I'll forego commenting on pricing other than to say that they packaged all the accessories into one custom option package.

Toyota of Dallas (TRDPart4u) is all about people seeing and knowing more about this truck. I had the chance to drive it, and it is a very comfortable, clean truck.

Oh ok, I thought I seriously pissed someone off by posting pics before the magazine issue came out, which I could totally understand, given the amount of work that probably goes into custom building a vehicle, testing it, and writing an entire article about it. I'll definitely be looking forward to the article in OJ.

The truck looks awesome. I don't know how many miles it has, but it definitely looks brand new. The only thing that kinda surprised me was that as far as I could tell, it doesn't have an e-Locker. I'm sure it's still extremely capable though. It had two of the Toyota bed bars in the bed, and the salesman said they had a bed rack for it (which was removed while it was on the lot). It's definitely very well equipped, and I doubt you could get a much more comfortable truck.

I'd never even heard of the Definity brand tires. I looked around on the internet, and saw they're a Pep Boys brand. I'm assuming they are manufactured for Pep Boys by someone else; anyone know who?

The Tacoma is part of an Overland Package which is available here at the Dealership. The Package includes Painted ARB bumper, Warn Winch, OME Suspension, All weather mats and Preditor Step bars. TRD Wheels and the "Off Brand Tires" which are made by Cooper and was unfortunate that was all we could get on short notice. We only had two days to get the vehicle ready to ship to Overland Expo 2009 which was a great success. Scott did get a chance to drive it and we did leave it out there for a week or so waiting on the transport company to come pick it up and bring it back to Dallas. I guess we will have to wait and see if it makes it into O.J. (You know how salesman are)

The Overland package is available for FJ Cruisers, Tacomas and 4Runners as well. This is a basic platform to build from and many other options are available.

Nothing wrong with the tires, they are very similar to my ******** Cepeks.
Cepek, Cooper, Pro Comp, all made from the same molds at the same factory pretty much, I think they look great on there.

The Tires actually are pretty nice. They ride and handle great, have nice side lugs for airing down and aren't too loud on the highway. They are priced right too. I guess we will have to see how they hold up after they have some miles on them.

Check out the gas prices! We even complained when it hit that price.
