Overland Expo.2010 Dates & Venue Announced

My wife and I are trying to arrange time off to attend. We typically travel with dogs to save kennel fees - are they allowed at the event?

We promise to camp away from everyone and keep them leashed.

Thanks

Dogs are welcome (leashed, quiet, and cleaned-up-after) - and several kids of one of the exhibitors are going to run a doggie "day care" (walk and visit) service for dog owners, for a small fee.

And Lorraine Chittock, a writer for Overland Journal who travels globally with her 2 dogs, will be there (as of this time) and will give a workshop on overlanding with dogs.

I registered last year, anymore detailed info on the remote camping would be appreciated. I have not received any news via email or snail mail and would like to start planning my travel plans.

From the 2010 website

On-site dry camping is in a group area, in or near the main Expo area. It will not be a spectacular scenic campground - we are emphasizing the education and social times. You won’t spend much time at camp anyway.

We will also have areas for more remote camping identified, away from the Expo area but within 5 - 25 minutes driving, on Forest Service or private land.

As a registrant, you'll receive lots of pre-Expo materials on how to prepare and what to expect.

Most of all expect to be blown away by all the wonderful people and an eye-opening experience - it's a fantastic community.

Please don't hesitate to email me (it's in your registration materials) with questions - or call. I don't check the forums every day, and it's easy to miss individual questions buried here.

Not sure why you are not getting any emails unless you changed your email address - all last year's paid Overland Experience registrations are automatically on our emails which began going out in August. If you got a Day Pass that might not automatically get you into the maillist depending on how you got it.

I can't tell what your name or email is, so I can't look on the mailing list. You can email me at roseann at ovexpo dot com and I can add it to the list or you can add it yourself - it's on http://ovexpo.com/Contact.html

Camping is dry camping on site - either in the north end of the arena where the Exhibitor area is, or in an adjacent field. Dry camping means no services - you come prepared for remote camping, though there will be porta-johns we encourage people to bring their own toilet systems (like you are overlanding). Very limited bathrooms available. As the site says, it's a field with a few mesquite trees and it's not super scenic - too hard to find a venue that can take thousands of people, hundreds of cars, have services and space, and super scenic camping.

The website has links to campgrounds nearby plus there are hundreds of thousands of acres of public land camping (remote camping). Look at the Venue page (tab at the to). Map + Links.

Camping for day passes will be available on site but I will have to be charging a very small fee to help cover costs of security and rental and porta-johns - there is an RV park nearby too that has tent sites.

Hope that helps!

I would register soon if you plan to take full Overland Experience - it's filling up.

That's encouraging since we always travel with Jessi-the-Wunder-Mutt; would she be permitted on the driving portions?

A major project at work has just been bumped back from April to May. As a result we have to cancel Moab --- but it leaves us open for this!

Sure! Except she MUST stay in the vehicle or be leashed at all times - we don't want any mutts being run over!

Glad you can come. We have some great programs planned.

This is coming up fast, it seems so far off for so long that it is hard to remember that in only 6 weeks we will be all hanging out together again.

I am really looking forward to gettimg more disabled folks down to the site on day passes. The welcome that was put out last year was exceptional and this year should be even better.

Looking forward to a great event...and there are so many things to attend I wonder if I could pay someone else to do the Disabled Explorers thing so I could spend the 3 days in classes and presentations :)

I guess the only way I can get anything done on time is to cut the deadline in half :)
Sorry for the scare tactic, I was doing fast math in my head...bad idea

Oh well it feels like it is only a short time away :)

Hey MtnFlyer that is a crazy nice thing to do...I will pm you as we will be reaching out to lots of wounded military folks from the area and many of them are on a very limited disability pay.
thanks very much for your offer!

I like the idea of supporting the military guys for day passes. If you want to set up something official I'm sure alot of folks will kick in, I know I will. If you don't want to go that route PM me and let me know how many you are talking about.

Hey guys - thanks for the generosity. can you get ahold of me by email, or phone -

I usually send Lance free passes for the DE attendees. Perhaps there is some other help we can all provide to DE from the Expedition Portal community?
