Hey guys - thanks for the generosity. can you get ahold of me by email, or phone -

I usually send Lance free passes for the DE attendees. Perhaps there is some other help we can all provide to DE from the Expedition Portal community?

Will there be a silent auction again for the DE? that seemed very popular with everyone last year.

Each year we plan to feature one charity. DE was the 2009 charity, and won't be repeated in 2010 ~ Lance is aware of this.

We will be announcing the 2010 charity soon.

That doesn't mean folks can't support DE directly - visit their website and contribute!

Courses & programs schedule and descriptions now out!

It's been epic - check out our full course descriptions, public programs, and evening programs - and the impressive instructor and presenter bios.

Individual class signups for Overland Experience pass registrants is now open - those of you signed up for the whole enchilada should have gotten your email yesterday.

Here's a shot of Graham Jackson of Overland Training during one of our extensive planning sessions - we're mapping the driving routes. Note the Macbook Pro, an iPhone w/GPX app, and not one but TWO Garmins . . .

Enjoy!

Oh, and astute readers of this forum will notice Graham is riding in a classic FJ60, rather than his Defender 110. :sombrero:

Overland Navigation Challenge:

I was just reading through the Program Schedule packet. The Overland Navigation Challenge sounds awesome! Sounds like it's right up my alley - but - is it on foot, or mounted?

Seems like it could be kind of crazy if everyone is zooming around the back country looking for the nav points.

I'll participate either wat, I was just wondering - especially since you mentioned Silva compasses.

Maybe.

No speed involved. It's not a matter of time, but quality. There will be ways we will check speed. At least one of them will involve Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff who will be prowling about :sombrero:

Mean, isn't it? I'm actually not kidding - we are working closely with 2 county sheriffs to make sure there is a good presence there to help with traffic and the like.

The nav challenge will be fun - foot, vehicle, over hill and dale, or is that cactus?

It involves more brains than testosterone.

The Hallmark camper folks have announced on their main web page
that they are attending the Overland Expo this year. Scroll down on
this page http://www.hallmarkrv.com/

This is confirmation that overlanding is a commercial phenomenon,
and Overland Expo is ground zero. Congratulations to Roseann Hanson
and her team!

It occurs to me that there might be a market for podcasts of the training sessions and discussion forums. The presenters are world-class stars of the overlanding world, and people can't attend all the sessions.

If the presenters are using a PA system, you could simply take a patch from the PA system board to an audio recorder. If not, it would be pretty easy to clip a recorder with built-in mic to the presenter, or better, a lavalier mic connected to a recorder in the presenter's pocket. The goal is to record without requiring a staff member to play sound engineer all day.

The resulting podcasts could be sold through the OvEx web site, or through iTunes.

Great idea - Sagen Media has already been working on just this thing, for Overland Training, though I think we'd show part but not all of the programs, depending on how the presenter/s feel about it.

Remember to keep checking our YouTube channel throughout the show for updates and news of some equipment that is going to debut at the event.

A video of the presentations would be even better. I didn't suggest it because video definitely requires somebody to handle the camera, and OvEx staff will be in short supply and big demand! But with OvEx sounding more and more like the Woodstock Nation of overlanding, I can imagine that videographers are lining up to participate.

Cue the music: "I'm goin' down to Yasgur's farm..." :victory:
